Thread: Gentlemen, i need some help!

I'm a young lady and my fiance has expressed to me that he wants to take up straight razoring, i have looked all over the web and am smiply confused by the amount of things there are to learn and to buy.
Does anyone have some advice? I'm looking for a razor that isn't too costly, that is shave-ready and that is atleast a little cool to look at. Any help is good help & is well appreciated, thank you all!

I would say you should start here:

That will list out not only the essentials, but also where to get budget stuff.

Depending on what you are looking for, the classifieds are a great place to shop for a blade.

You can find decent vintage blades that will shave well for good prices there.

Also check out the vendor's corner and jump to some of the vendor links.
There are a few folks who run sites where they sell razors that they fix up and hone.

++1 on the previous advice. If I was purchasing a str8 razor for somebody who is completely new to the experience, I would purchase a razor-strop set. Straight Razor Designs--a sponsoring SRP vendor--has such sets and I believe that you can add the Lynn Abrams dvd to the set for an additional charge.

Whichever vendor you choose, though, amke sure that they offer you the razor "professionally honed" not factory sharpened. It will save both you and your fiance some frustration later. Two of the vendors who advertise her that I have done business with who do so are Straight Razor Designs and Vintage Blades, LLC.

As for an inexpensive razor with a little dazzle...A Dovo "Special" w/ faux Tortoise scales (handle) is not a bad choice.

I know that purchasing a str8 razor can be a confusing experience. One way to deal with that, however, is to call or email one of the vendors of your choice such as SRD. They will be more than happy to discuss your preferences and assist you in making an informed choice.
