Default Where to buy badger brush heads...

Anybody know where to get hold of silvertip badger brush knots? Not interested in a whole flashy fancy pricey brush I'm just mostly interested in the brush itself over the handle. Didn't know if custom makers could get them or if you have to buy an expensive brush to canabalize for the brush head...

Try here, http://www.blankity-blanks.com/brushes.htm. You can buy both blanks and brush heads, but if your good with wood, you can make your brushs...something I've considered myself.

    Gawker,

Do you have a first name? I know a few gents have contactd Bernd at www.shavemac.com about installing a new know in older brushes. I don't know if you have made your own handle or plan to, or what your exact needs may be. However, if this might work, contact Bernd at [email protected]

Heh...indeed I do. Please allow me to introduce myself formally. I'm Deputy Sheriff Charles Browning of Midland Texas Unfortunately I'm also one of them dang youngins that's been doing this newfangled internetty thingy most of his life and adopted a persona for the net that has culminated in me actually answering to any variation of CrashGawker, Gawker, Gawk man, etc because of his long running association with the name. My apologies for doing things the same old way without thinking about it

My intention is make a handle for a brush to match a set of razors I'm trying to commission from a very widely known knife maker who shall remain nameless for the time being. Being one of the youngsters of the bunch here not all the razors fit my tastes all the time. I'm talking with him about having a seven day set made to fit my tastes, and I'll be building a case for the razors to match the design scheme and I thought a matching brush and stand would round out the project. Hence the search for parts and pieces. I'm really astounded at the amount of information you guys have to share with us newcomers and I smile everyday I come here just cause I'm so glad I found this place when I started this hobby.

hehe...well it's still in the very early stages currently as he doesn't do straight razors. He's actually best known for his folders which include a rather exotic type of folder of which only 4 companies produce them, and he is probably the number two custom maker of them. That's about the only hint I'm ready to give...but suffice to say if I can convince him to take on this project I'll spend the money on the razors over one of his custom knives that I've been dreaming of for the low low price of $750+ each. The razors will probably cost more than that anyhow as I'll be buying the steel from a small forge in Colorado...shipping it to Ohio...and bringing it all home to Texas...

Plus I've not totally decided on the scale material now that I'm considering a matching brush handle...my original material doesn't come in chunks big enough to make one from. Fortunately I've got a source for a fantastic damascus-micarta that I could use instead and still come up with some kick ass stuff. Just got to convince the knife god and my wife that this is as good an idea as I think it is. Besides...won't it be nice to drag yet another custom maker into our market?

BTW does anyone know where I can find small clasps and stuff like for small cabinetry projects like you might find on a 7 day set case? I'd like to do a hard case with a latch that preferably locks. Security isn't much an issue but I think a small jewelry lock and key would be a nice touch.

    Charles,

Good luck on putting all of that together. And, it's nice to have another Texan in the folds. I was raised in Mt. Pleasant, TX, but I've been in Utah since '99.

I understand why you would like everything to match...look at my avatar!
