As an aside i stopped by a shop a couple days back and was surprised to see the young feller stropping a real straight. He was trying to get his blade sharp.

I asked about the legal issue. Apparently here-not illegal but discouraged. His argument was the blade was no different than his clippers, which on rare occasion might nick and are always cleaned and sanitized as is the razor so what could be the problem?

I spent a summer in Cincinnati back in 2002 and it was one of the strangest places I have ever lived. Their chili compared to Texas chili is like canned chilli but they put it on spaghetti :confused: Anyways, unless you like canned food passed off as fast food I would skip it.

Well everyone, I'm sorry to report that the shave was a resounding failure. The old man had given up on real straight razors a number of years ago and my shave basically amounted to Gillette foam applied with a brush and a Mach 3.24242, whatever.

Should have stuck with the Mariemont as orginally planned, I know for a fact that they would have used a real straight and lather.

Oh well, just gonna have to volunteer to be the shave dummy at RazorCon!

I'm sorry to hear you had such a crappy shave. I hope you didn't pay too much. To me the idea of someone shaving me with a disposable strip razor and charging for it....well, it seems wrong.

that's a bummer to hear.. sorry. my barber still does straight shaves.. the lather comes out one of those warm lather machines.. he applies it with his hands and uses a shavette.. i used to do it monthly.. but since i started shaving with a feather.. i prefer to shave myself.

Chili on spaghetti? I'm not sure, but I'm almost positive you could go to jail for that in Texas. Of course, being of French and Indian decent, otherwise known as Cajun and other, less desirable terms, I prefer etouffee, gumbo, or some boiled crawfish with corn on the cob and new potatoes. Man, I'm getting hungry.

I'm a barber in Ky. I know alot of other barbers who flat out tell people that "they arent allowed to use razors" JUST because they dont want to add the extra service. We are allowed to use razors in Ky. Each state has a barbering board. ( governing body for barbers/ health code, rules and regulations, license.... etc) I doubt a governing board would " discourage using a razor." I would say its against regulations or its not. In each state you can google the states name and board of barbering, get the phone number and ask the board what the rules are.

I've heard similar statements here in Idaho from different barbers. One guy said "not allowed since 6 yrs ago" (or something like that), another guy said it was strongly discouraged, another said it is still OK, but the barber board has been rumbling for a couple yrs to ban it. Another guy (the couple haircuts I got from him) shaved my neck in the back with a shavette. So, who knows???

I could buy the "...say it's illegal cause they don't want the hassle, or they don't have the skill to do it. I don't think Idaho requires straight blade shaving to get a barber certificate anymore.
