    Default words of advice

I've been doing the straight razor thing now for a few months. While the shaves are still improving, I have gotten more complacent in the handling of my razors. Last night while preparing to shave for work, I was wiping off the mineral oil off my Timor. Unfortunately, I wasnt paying attention enough and I managed to slap the razor down onto my knuckle, causing an instant river of blood. Thought I could make it without stitches, but I sit here typing with three free fingers on
my left hand, and one finger with three stiches and a splint. SO my words of advice are dont take for granted the sharpness of the straights and your ability to handle them. This is also a friendly reminder not to shave in the nude.

You might reconsider not using oil on your razors. I keep my razors oil free for 5-6 months now without any problems. Just wipe the razor with towel, 2-3 hard blows inside the scales, and a quick strop, and they are fine...

I'm with Nenad. The only time I oil my razors are when I change the ones in my rotation, oiling those going into storage.

Wise words, indeed. I managed to stop what I thought would be an awful accident waiting to happen when I bought the razors shown in this thread.

The lady at the cash register was being awfully cavalier when handling the razors. I warned her that they are not to be taken lightly. Well, I'm not usually one to raise my voice with strangers, but she opened the razors to cut away their price tags (tied on with strings) and was about to rest her thumb right on the blade's edge when i yelled FREEZE! Had she squeezed her thumb against the blade, she could have been seriously hurt.

A wise gent mentioned in one thread that the safest place for a straight razor is against your face. That's when you have total concentration and focus.

Yes, axiom #3 in straight razor shaving is always know where the razor is and where the various parts of your anatomy are at all times in relationship to the razor.

That wise gent would likely NOT be Richz, I guess he's the exception that proves the rule.

I am cut to the quick. I never shave the nether region. Only shave pant less.
I also don't oil the razor unless I won't use them for a long while and that hasn't happened yet.
