    Question razor

I have decided to give making a razor form scratch a go
I have cut the blank out and ground it to shape ,I have also done the hollow grinding of the blade
The steel I`m using is ATS34 stainless,Kinfe blades I usually harden to
61.5RC- 63RC with that steel . Would some one be kind enough to tell me the appropiate hardness for a razor made from that material
    Kind regards Peter

That's a good hardness for that steel. Most razors fall within that range, with 63Rc being the high side. The ATS should be tougher at that hardness than the simple carbon steels most razors are made of, although it will be tough to sharpen.

    Peter...

You may find that grinding a straight is a tad different than a knife. The knife you can put the master grind on the blade and still heat treat because it is still thick enough at the cutting edge and you will be able to maintain straight edges.

The straights you have to go from the hundredths acceptable in a knife edge thickness to the thousands in thickness normally on a straight razor. If you go to these narrower dimensions and try to heat treat, the blade will warp when you heat treat.

Heat treat the profiled blade with whatever filework you had planned, if it has it, and then grind the 1/4 hollow with fresh 120 grit belts. Of course, once you get close to desired wall thickness at the cutting edge, go to 400 and 600.

Your hardness on the C scale is fine...

Looks like I goofed ,I have ground it to the finished thickness without heat treating it
I always send stainless away to get done ,so we will see how it comes back
    Kind regards Peter
