    Default Murray Carter Razor Project

    Hi gang
Many of you know Murray Carter as a Master Bladesmith, making some of the sharpest and most useful tools anywhere. Murray is also very interested in straight razors and is in the process of working on a first run of blades to be made from Hitachi #1 White Paper carbon steel. I sent him several razors to try and he liked the Dubl Duck Wonderedge steel the best. He explained to me how these blades were likely quenched and then hardened with ice as advertised. The first run will likely be 5/8 or 6/8 round point. The degree of hollow grinding is still up in the air as it's going to be something new to grind so thin. The blades will likely be a bit thicker than future runs. For the time being, we are anticipating him making the blades only. If anyone is interested in tackling the scale project (Bill?Vlad?), please let me know. I don't have a price yet for these first razors, but would expect them to be in the 200-300+ range. I would like to have 6 of these pre-sold, so he can prepare his shop for the project. These are completely hand forged from solid piece of steel with no pre-cutting of blanks. Any cuts will be hot cuts. They will be finished on his Japanese water wheels and stones.

Please pm me if you are interested in any of these razors. These would probably be delivered sometime this summer.

not a student price range really...I'll have to wait untill I finish my course and get a full time job...then perhaps I'll get ONE razor in that price range to last me a lifetime.

    Larry,

Overall, I think Bill would be the right master for the scale work. However, I am willing to do my best and let you decide.

I don't yet feel confident of the custom work I do until it is done. Like I said in another post, I still sweat every cut and drilled and only feel relief when I am done and have a satisfactory result.

I can always make the scales and send them to you. You decide if they are up to snuff for these razors.

    Larry...

I have seen Vlad's work first hand and I think he is too modest. I'm sure he can do it. Robert brings some nice stuff to the party. I am also impressed with Nenad's clear satin finish scales. They are so clean looking. So that is a possibility too. Maybe each hobbiest, including myself, could be commissioned to do like two sets. We could each have our own series...

In the meantime... you haven't entered My Giveaway.... Because?
