    Default Hello Irony. Restoration injury

So, I've been str8 shaving for around a month.. I've become pretty comfortable quickly and have been doing great. Haven't cut myself at all, really. I've been restoring a few razors and just now I had the bright idea of blowing some dust out of the scales of an open razor. Genius right? How's 2 1/2 inch cut from jaw towards chin sound? About right? Yeah, that's about exactly right. Not deep at all but still. Too deep for styptic. It's totally gonna keep me from shaving for a few days while it heals.. bummer. The spike caught me as I raised it towards my face. Guess that's what I get for being stupid.. I guess they don't call them "cut throats" for nothing.. Anyone else have any unexpected injuries while restoring razors? I can't be the only one..

    Oh man that sounds terrible.

The things really do need to be respected. Kind of like trea(ing every firearm as if it were loaded.

Sounds like you were lucky. No recent injuries for me but I remember cutting right thru a leather glove & part of a finger on one of my first resto's.
Actually whilst test shaving one the other day I bumped the scales with my opposite hand & flicked the spike down on my throat near the collarbone. Luckily all my movements are pretty slow & controlled around blades so no worse than a nick or weeper.

    OUCH !!!!

Since it's a "restoration-related" injury, add it here:

Wouldn't let me post there, said the thread was closed...

Yeah, I guess I was lucky. It was over before I felt it so, it's probably good that I hadn't honed it yet. might have gotten deeper if it was shave ready.. It was popping hairs but not done by any means. Didn't take much..

I was hand sanding a rather dull blade and my hand slipped. Huge gash. It bled like crazy.

While I found it to be an odd thread, as I continue to wonder why you guys feel the need to run for a camera after drawing blood, I don't have any idea why that thread was closed? Does anyone know the reason why it was closed?

Got my first shave in since the cut, yesterday... going again tonight. It went fine but boy was I nervous drawing across there the first time. it's pretty much healed but still a bit raised. Couldn't take waiting anymore. The wiskers were driving me crazy.
