This is a great idea. I say 1.00 per day, which does rule me out, but that's ok. I do a lot more reading than contributing since I'm no razor expert! There are people who accumulate many posts, then disappear after a couple of months.Quote:

As I was over at my other house fixing things up to help make it sell, I got to thinkin' again. Damn, twice in a day... I can't take too much of that. Figured I'd come back all proud with the answer and Tom beat me to the keyboard.
I noticed that some guys who I really like hearing from on this forum don't have 400 posts. They have definitely been contributors and I would want to include them. Top of that list that comes to mind is Ed. He should be able to take part.
Before I read any of the threads today, I went through the membership rolls to see if there was a correlation to what I had in mind. I came up with the same thing that Tom did. Seems that one post per day average is a pretty good benchmark... or 400 posts.
Would y'all be in favor of that?
By contributors, I'm talkin' about the guys who take part. and not the peeping toms who only absorb whatever they can without so much as a word to acknowledge everyone elses efforts. On that same note, someone who replies to a thread thanking the guys for the information or say it was something that they will be able to use would be considered a contributor. So, what I am saying is that you don't need to know anything to be a contributor. The guys who continually answer questions over and over are rewarded by that feedback and it's just as necessary as the instruction that was generously given.
So, here we are. I haven't checked out specific dates for starting memberships, but I think I need to focus more on the guys who have been here a while in addition to the post count. So, some of you may have post count of 1 per day, but may not have been here long enough for my original intent.
I'm leaning towards 1 post per day and you have been here since April 1st of this year. Any objections to that?

This is your gig. There's not a guy here who would not love to win that razor. My understanding is that the original intent was to reward a "tenured" member with a great razor, since long time members don't qualify for the razors given away en masse to new members. Personally, I wonder if I should qualify regardless of the number of posts. I use a straight 2-3 times per week. My expertise lies more in brushes, creams and soaps. Followed by DE razors ( gasp!) and then straights. I was well over 100 posts before I had my first complete straight shave. Since you are creating and donating this razor, I believe that regardless of what you decide for the qualifier, no one here would disagree.

It's funny how different people's responses can be.
I'm a newer guy, and I think I'm often a lurker--guilty as charged, although I've chatted with some of you guys on Skype and various instant messengers, and I attend the chats when I can.
I usually don't post non-content replies (i.e. "thanks for the information") unless it's a thread I started, mainly because I don't want someone who's looking for the same information I was looking for to have to filter through all of my thank yous in order to get information.
That's probably weird, and may even come across as rude--so I'll consider what you said: maybe more active thanks are in order.
Personally, I'm in favor of a high standard either in terms of post count or posts per day, and that's speaking as someone who doesn't qualify under either category. Your work is too gorgeous for me to be comfortable trying to win it on a technicality.
I'm just a fan of great craftsmanship, and the giveaway razor certainly demonstrates that. Whoever gets it, it adds to the hobby we all love, so however you decide to determine the recipient is cool. I just wanna be in the drawing, dangit!:D
