Thanked: 1Bill's Giveaway Poll for Post Count
Ok...
Maybe 400 is too many posts as a requirement for the giveaway razor is too much. How many should it be to be included?
You will still have to ask to be included to be thrown into the hat...

I agree with 400. That was initially the plan, why change now. Sure exceptions can be made for certain people and moderators who have belonged to SRP for a long time and contributed a lot to the forum. But unless you are new, it seems hard to be constantly contributing to SRP and not have 400 posts.

I think that you should stick with your initial motive of rewarding continued contribution to the forum. 400 posts was your gut instinct, and I think a good one. That marker has been out there for quite some time, so if people aspired to hit it, they have had ample opportunity to.

I voted for 300, but it's entirely self serving... that would avoid me having to bust my butt to get what, 40 more posts or something in over the next week
Of course, I'll probably get them in anyway without trying, God knows it's harder to get me to shut up than it is to get me to talk. You should see me when I get a microphone and a captive audience...

Bill,
Stay with the initial plan of 400 posts for those with
say less than one year. For those who have been
around a year or are moderators and the like, make
and exception.

Seems like 400 was the original amount, mainly as a reward for folks who have been around for a while. I'm still for the 400 count.

There's problems no matter how you do it. It's hard to custom craft a set of specific guidelines that will be fair across the board without being arbitrary or putting human judgment into the mix. Too many things nowdays are arbitrated by lawyers and rules and not enough by the "spirit" of the intention. I think basic groundrule guidelines are a good idea but in the end Bill should be free to just put people on there who he feels belong and disallow others whether they meet the "letter" of the rules or not based upon what he's trying to accomplish.
If it gets too onerous or doesn't meet what Bill is trying to accomplish in his heart then the gesture he's attempting to make is wasted.

Bill,
Stick with the 400. Yes, that means you will be giving a couple of blabbermouths who contribute little information, just a whole lot of it (Just kidding Rich and X ), a greater chance to win that georgeous razor, but so be it.
Just another data point,
Ed

Thanked: 1I voted 100 out of partly selfish reasons, and partly because I never liked judging a memebrs contributions by the number of posts they make. an old fitness forum i used to frequent had a term of "post whore" for people who wer trying to wrack up their post count to gain respect. (not accusing anyone here of post whoring) I do not think post count alone is really a good indicator of commitment or participation. some people post about anything and everything, some post a few thoughtful posts. Some people are active on a board and rack up posts slowly, while others may plunge in and rack up several hundred posts in a matter of weeks without really offering much.
i know I have personaly been coming to this forum just about everyday for more than 4 months and only posted a little over 100 posts. Most of my posts are still questions or minor observations as I do not yet consider myself well trained enough to offer a lot of advise and do not want to clutter a thread about a serious question with noise.
If you look at the post count of some of the people we consider gurus here that have been posting over a year, you will notice that there are some here that have joined in the last few months that have post counts that exceed that. I dont think we would really claim that the new people contribute more than the old people.
I guess my question would be what criteria are you looking for bill? are you looking for commitment to SR shaving? to SRP in general? or contributions to SRP?
I'd say if you are looking for anyone in those first 2 categories it would be a combination of how long they have been a member and how many posts they have made. If you want to judge it on contributions that would limit the field a lot more.
i understand your distaste for what happened to the razor you so generously gave away in the giveaway. but we had dozens of people enter that that only signed up to SRP becuase of the giveaway and never came back after.
If that is what you are trying to avoid, i would suggest looking for members that joined before a certain date and are still active.
