Celluloid cracking prevention?
Has anyone found a way to prevent or minimize the cracking of celluloid scales? I was hoping that someone has found a way to treat them or reinforce them, preferably without having to disassemble the razor. I know most of you will say to just replace them, but the razor has a nice set of imitation wood grain scales that are almost tiger like in appearance. I cracked the scales once while stropping and again while drying the blade. I have repaired both cracks with superglue. Also, besides the cracks, the razor is in excellent shape, so I would like to keep it original. In case anyone wants to know, it is a Eugene Berninghaus Co.“bayonet steel” razor.

Other than the super-glue routine and filling the cracks I know of no other way to do it. Maybe, if you are handy with dangerous chemicals you could brew come of the stuff (celluloid that is) and then use it to repair the scales.
