unimpressive gold etching
Ok, so today I just recieved my 7/8 SS Thiers Issard from classicshaving.com. And I look at the gold marking that's on the blade and it's hardly even there. a faint yellow glow at the best. Is that normal? I wasn't even sure there was a different color metal on the blade untill I got it in a LOT of light......

LX,
I have quite few TI razors and all that have gold etching on the blade have some issues. Most are fairly bold, but no very even. I have one where the gold is nearly transparent. Etching is not their strong point.
Dovos etching is always nearly perfect and may be applied by a more automated method I would think so it is consistant.
Still my favorite razors though.

In which the ram and wolf heads are gold but nothing else is (I tried to scan it, but with the mirror polish, it was impossible to see anything).
The gold wash DOES rub off with time though. You might want to make sure that it was not a razor that was returned to TI. However, I know TI has QC issues with pinning the scales, and would not be suprised if they did with the gold platting too. I know they also do not always align the etching well either.
With all this said though, TI's usually are amazing shavers!!!

Aesthetics are not the strong point with TI. If you want a beautiful razor all around get a Dovo but if you want a superior shaver get a TI.
