Well, I snagged a nice vintage Thiers-Issard Spartacus on eBay last week. Nice "French Ivory" scales, inlaid SPARTACUS in gold on the scales, 5/8 spike point with the original box. I honed it last night on a small Kimberly Special barber hone fron Tilly, finished on a blue then yellow Coticule, then 20 passes on 0.25 paste on balsa. Great shave this morning, perfectly smooth and no injuries from the spike point.
After the shave I dried it carefully, laid it on a towel to finish drying and as I reached for the Clippercide spray in my medicine cabinet my barbers comb fell out directly onto the blade. The TI now has a crack fron edge to spine right in the middle of the blade.
I almost never leave these lying open even for a few minutes, what luck.
Oh, well. It was fun honing it, fun shaving with it but the single experience was not worth the $78 I paid for it <g>.
