New Razor, Bad Day
Well, I snagged a nice vintage Thiers-Issard Spartacus on eBay last week. Nice "French Ivory" scales, inlaid SPARTACUS in gold on the scales, 5/8 spike point with the original box. I honed it last night on a small Kimberly Special barber hone fron Tilly, finished on a blue then yellow Coticule, then 20 passes on 0.25 paste on balsa. Great shave this morning, perfectly smooth and no injuries from the spike point.
After the shave I dried it carefully, laid it on a towel to finish drying and as I reached for the Clippercide spray in my medicine cabinet my barbers comb fell out directly onto the blade. The TI now has a crack fron edge to spine right in the middle of the blade.
I almost never leave these lying open even for a few minutes, what luck.
Oh, well. It was fun honing it, fun shaving with it but the single experience was not worth the $78 I paid for it <g>.

I think most of us have had the experience of something stupid happening while working on a razor and having it ruined. Hopefully it doesn't happen to a really expensive razor and after that you become so careful about working on them you almost become paranoid.
My experience like that was on a beau brummel that was a beautiful razor and I had gotten it to mint status and you know I couldn't stop while I was ahead. I had to use the dremmel to give it that final polish and while I was working on it my son hit my arm and the dremmel hit the edge and I lost a large chunk of the edge.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I had the same thing happen to me with my first W&B and that was after already honing out a large nick in the edge. The second one would have made me grind it down to uselesness.

Tony,
I am SOOOO sorry to hear of your accident. I had a snipe bid in on that razor; I now wish I had bid higher so that neither of us would be mourning the loss of that razor.

Ed,
It really put a dent in my day. I have a few vintage TI razors and was glad I snagged this one. This is the first razors I hve ever damaged and have already rearranged my medicine cabinet to prevent the chance of any more "leapers" taking out another razor <g>.
