Yes, I tell people if there seems to be a natural way to work it into the conversation. It's fits in with a philosophy I like, where you take a bit more trouble to learn skills yourself and become more self-reliant. The opposite of a skills-less consumer, where the commercial products available are bad compromises - you get a second class product, in order to make things easier/more profitable for the manufacturer/retailer.
Mind you, I haven't told my mum yet, she's not going to like it. I'm planning to wait until I can say "oh, yeah, I've been doing it 6 months, now I've learned I hardly ever cut myself..."
