Just found a link to this story on New Scientist: http://www.newscientisttech.com/arti...ine-news_rss20 I could be (and hopefully am) totally wrong here but does the idea of regularly bombarding your face with a light source sound like a good idea to you?

Perhaps the UV is filtered out, but I live in Australia. Here, we almost jokingly refere to melanoma (skin cancer) as our national cancer. My kids don't go out to play at school if they leave their hat at home. So perhaps I am just a bit paranoide about this stuff.

I guess those people might say "so you won't shine a light on your face but you will pass an increadibly sharp blade all over it "

Any thoughts?

This may not be a bad device for non-permanent body depillation. The IR range is at the opposite end of the spectrum to UV, so you shouldn't have any cancer-related issues. However, nothing will make me give up on my straights for facial shaving

Infra red is harmless. IR is the same as radiation from heat (simplified explanation).
Any time you sit in front of a hot meal, you get radiated with infrared.

Infrared saunas use the same principle, but on a much larger scale.
Noone has found ill effect from them, so I guess using micro infrared pulses is not going to be any danger at all.

" . . . for weeks at a time . . . ." That's what I recall from skimming the article. So I'm guessing temporarily.

Basically sounds like one step above waxing and in rival to laser hair removal. It would probably become something done in salons by a 'licensed technician'.

Actually this looks pretty safe so it can even be done at home. It all depends on what will make the manufacturer more money.

Oh yes, ahem, it was halloween and three other folks happened to show up in TOS dress by chance as well. A science blue and two command yellows along with myself and the Orion slave mistress. Funny story: She said to me, "What do you want to dress up as for halloween this year?" and I said, "I don't want to dress up. I'm an adult now and don't care to spend the time, effort and money to put a thoughtful costume together". Then she said, "'Cuz I was thinking I could go as a green space girl from Star Trek" and I said, " ... ok." Even funnier was watching her get hit on by some pianist from across the room later that night. A little green makeup goes a long way girls!
