    Default Art of Shaving Shave

So I first went to the store in CT. They did not have a shave service at this place. I just went to the AOS store in Tampa florida.

30 min wait, I don't know why. Maybe it was lunch break.

The chair and the room were very nice. I was surprised to see a lady barber. She was cute and very nice. I did the cheaper 35 dollar shave. Everything was very nice, she was using a shavette with a feather blade. ( I never used a shavette before). I really liked the hot shaving cream machine.

Left happy, 35 bucks is a bit much for a shave, in my local berber its around $18.

When I got into the car I took a look in the mirror. The shave was, well not very close at all. I could have got a better shave with a cheap disposable one blade razor.

But it really is nice to have someone shave you, especially a cute girl.

In the shave biz we call that "all show and no go".

But, if you liked the pampering then I guess it was worth it to you.

I don't have my shave stuff with me. I just shaved with a disposable and hand soap mixed with hot water. It was a better shave then at the store. haha

Yes, you are correct, All show no go.

I had a short talk with the lady working at AOS here in Vegas last time I was at the mall; she said they have to use shavettes because of some sort of health code where they can't use the same blade on more than one person. I didn't question it but I was definitely wondering how others get away with it. Maybe they just don't want any possible liability or maybe it really is the code and others break it.

To be fair though, I've never seen a place to get an actual straight shave here so maybe it's a LV thing

I think that's the case in most jurisdictions due to the concern of transmitting things such as HIV, Hepatitis, etc from customer to customer. *Some* barbers may allow you to bring in your own razor for them to use, but I know the barbershop I go to won't touch that idea with a ten foot pole.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

It was her skill not the blade. She was doing lots of short little soft strokes. Yeah, my local barber uses a shavette too. It illegal to not use disposable, also the old guys are tired of sharping razors! haha

I have no idea about the law in the US, but in Europe (as in, the EU), they have to use a new, clean blade for each person for the very reasons above. I was told by a barber at Truefitt & Hill here in London (UK) that they will shave you with your own razor if you bring it in. I have never risked it!!

I got a shave from AOS in Las Vegas a while ago. The shave itself was very close but not that comfortable. I really didn't like the feel of the shavette. The lady was very good though I feel she used far too much pressure. It was still worth it though.

my barbershop will shave anyone with a real straight, as long as it is their own and they have brought it in.

I live in Alabama. According to my barber, the salons tell everyone that it is illegal to use a straight. (He says they just don't like the extra work or don't know how). But, the reality is that you can use a shavette as long as you use a fresh blade on each customer. Also, you can use a straight razor as long as you have a way of sterilizing it (which most don't due to the expense). I haven't asked if he would use one of my straights. I'll check next time I get a haircut.
