Thanked: 4942New Book "Sharp Practice"
Hi Guys,
Just wanted to let you know about a new book that should be on the market over here soon. It is called "Sharp Practice" The real man's guide to shaving, written by Anders Larsen. Anders is a world traveler of Danish/Irish decent, born in Beirut and currently living in Ireland. The book is published by Bantam Press and my understanding is that it's only available in the UK right now. The book has 10 chapters all about shaving including some interesting History of Shaving, The Shave, Cut Throats, Safety Razors, Electric Razors, Preparation, Head Shaving, Problems, Mustaches and Beards and so on.
I have had the opportunity to read this book. It is a lot of fun and has some great information.
The author has advised me that he will ship a copy of this book to the first 10 guys who send me their mailing address. Please send me the addresses at my [email protected] email. I will forward them on to him as soon as I get them. This is a really great treat and we thank you Anders.
Hopefully we will find out soon when the book will go on sale here.
Have fun,
Lynn

I had to send one as well... an hour seems like a long time for a deal like this but had to at least try.

Thanked: 0sharp practice
Just wanted to log in to say thanks to Lynn for posting the details on the book. Also thanks to the members out there for advice received in the past - I used to log in a fair bit to the old site - the new one still seems a little unfamiliar to me.
For those of you who are interested in a free copy of the book, what I'm planning on doing is ordering them on amazon.co.uk and putting in your delivery addresses. That's probably the fastest way of getting the books to the USA, since it's not published over there yet. But let me know if this isn't ok with you and I'll try to come up with something else.
thanks again - anders

The disadvantage of living in another time zone is that you miss a lot!
Lynn's mail was posted at 4 a.m. European time when I was asleep.

Thanked: 0Unfortunately bought this book a few of days ago. Here's a review for you, though as a newbie not sure how much I can really comment:
Its very good, full of short asides about the author's own experiences, and an informative history of shaving from the stone age to modern day, though the bit on Sweeny Tod is a bit disconcerting as the story it self is.
The chapters cover the main principles well as far as I can tell, though for the purists there's some information on electric razors but I don't think this detracts too much.
The main thing I took form it for now, until I get a Straight I guess is in the aftershave chapter, the author used talc instead of anything more exotic. Having tried this I can see why, gives a lovely feel to the face.
