    Default What Ruined Your Shave?

I couldn't find anywhere else, so here's a thread for whatever you managed to do today—big or small—that ruined an otherwise good shave.

My shave was great, today, except at the very last moment, I caught my 6/8 Joseph Rodgers wedge on the tap—something I haven't done in a long time. It's nothing too serious but I can feel the damage with my thumb so it'll need to go back to the hones, sometime this week. I'll probably start on my Welsh slate and work backwards until it's gone.

As I say, no massive damage, but it's so frustrating when a tiny lapse in concentration means having to fix what was such a good edge, especially when the rest of the shave itself was so good!

So, to the rest of you, what happened to you to disrupt your shave?

Well, first of all I knocked my gold Rolex watch off the counter. It hit the bathroom scale, busted that, scared the cat, and the cat jumped out through the picture window in the bedroom. The cat landed on my brand new Maserati, scratched the heck out of the hood, started it rolling because I had it in neutral, and it backed down the steep driveway taking out a UPS truck that was delivering my new 11/8 GB Anchor razor I won off Ebay. The truck was totalled and worst of all the scales on the razor got cracked! Just not a good shave!

And the cat got away too! I never liked that cat all that much.

That's the most horrible thing I've heard....other than that 50 year old guy who had his can of shaving cream blow up in his face after trying to heat it up on the stove...that also sounded bad lol

Thanks, PigHog, for getting this going. And, thanks ace for the humor!
I'm a newbie so I've been keeping pretty close track of my shaves (30 plus today!) and it is incredibly frustrating to have a great shave going and make one tiny mistake that carries the rest of the day. I've been working with a new TI and have been enjoying its sharper (than my DOVO) shoulder for getting around my goatee - a little too much, unfortunately. I was finishing my XTG on my left chin when I stupidly decided to alter my angle, and got a nice, fine scratch in front of my beard. Sweet.
What's worse is that I knew it was about to happen. When I look over my logs, that's the repeating pattern - I know before it happens, and then prove it to myself.

Not today, but a few months ago as I was starting my second pass, my son burst into the bathroom running away from his younger brother who was in hot pursuit.

I still refuse to lock the door, but this sort of excitement can ruin the relaxation of a shave

I had my daughter suprise me one morning. I was doing my first pass and I was rounding my chin when she slamed the door open to give me a towel. I have never wanted to yell at a 3 year old more in my life. I have a nice scar from that incident, and I will and always do remember to lock the door when I am about to shave or I will just have her in there with me while I scrape the face. Suprise is never a good thing when holding a straight.

... if the suprice isn't how good it shaves!

I had a strange shave once, hectic day in the goldsmiths shop, dirty and unshaved I was going to freshen myself up quickly and head down town for a beer in the evening summer sun.
The razor shaved perfect the day before so i got supriced at how bad it was today.
Well, stones out, got it in order and continued the shave, one stroke and it was all messed up again,
at this point I noticed the lather was really dirty... I had been polishing jewellery all day and my face was covered in every imaginable kind of gritty stuff, it just killed the edge in a heartbeat!
