I'm just wondering if there are ever any "National" or "Big Shave" type meetups?
Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to go on a vacation! :hmmm:

Never heard of one but that would be something huh. I wish I could meet all my overseas friends too.:)
Never heard about a national but if your looking for a larger type this weekend in Denver. That's been going on for a few years now. Tc
I have been organizing a Seattle meet. This year is only the second one, but having fun doing it.
Question: What would you expect a "national / big" shaving meet to entail?
I personally envision a two day event having many vendors (both pro and hobbie types), a couple well known guests in the industry speaking or giving demos, seminars, and maybe a contest or two.
Just curious what other people would be thinking.
Matt
I also do the So. California meet and have thought of something like what you are talking about, maybe an East and West Coast events.
I attended the Kansas City meetup last October. Although the majority of the people there seemed to be from Missouri & Kansas there were people attending from the Great Lakes area, the Rocky Mountains, and the East Coast. In this regard I considered it a national event. There were opportunities to practice stropping and honing plus free samples and at least one vendor present.
Something I would not like to see is Youtube personalities.
There were one or two or more at Asheville, NC. And I think Lynn has had one or more bigger meets at his place. You should be able to find the threads if you do a little searching around on the forum.
There is a big shaving collectables meet every year. I have never been but the pictures imply that it is not about using stuff the focus is on collecting.
I'm thinking Vegas am I the only one lol
Inexpensive airfare. Reasonable hotel rates and things for wives to do. I am thinking if there was going to be a great place Vegas would be it.
Vegas would have a LOT going for it. I'm wondering when would be the best time of year for something like that. IMO winter months would be out due to airport issues in the colder parts of North America. On the other hand I don't know if Vegas has a "busy" season?
I think Vegas sounds like a good idea.
Would be a great place , because vacations could align around it , and there does happen to be a very well known razor maker there , not to mention a couple places to get a shave, lots of get together rooms , it would be appealing. Tc
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that has interest in this. I can envision custom razor, brush, strop and soap makers all showing their wares. Seminars, special guests, areas dedicated to honing, restoring and razor building, some actual shave stations and a show and swap meet would all be good. The best part would be getting to meet a lot of the fine folks from here on the forum.
Las Vegas would be great. Anywhere else would be great too.
If anything like this ever happens : I'm In!!!

Several years ago they tried to put together an SRP National Show. The problem is one person has to ramrod it and in this case the hotel wanted cash up front and a lot of it as well as guarantees on rooms and it just never came together. They decided small shows like the ones we have now are the way to go.
Once you get over a certain amount of people it becomes hard to fond a place to hold the meet. It's not to hard to find a garage or a back room in a restaurant for 10 or 15 people, but you start hitting 40 or so and you need larger venues and they expect a certain amount of money. I am having to sign a minimum guarantee for this years Seattle meet. Our group needs to eat/drink a certain amount worth of food. If they don't, I need to come up with the rest.
On a side note, I think it might be beneficial if you included other mens/traditional grooming products like mustache wax, beard pil, pomade etc...
Here in ohio we use the fair ground buildings for swap meets, gun shows, car/truck shows, ect.
Are fair's are held in Aug. &Sept. Just curious if other states are able to utilize thier fair grounds.
Well one thing is that you would not necessary need one hotel, yes that would be great but we would just need one center tall meeting place
Putting on a razor meet in Las Vegas would take lot of work and money for both the building and insurance. People would be deterred by the cost of transportation and lodging. The number of vendors who will send samples is large but very few will attend or pay for booth space. The crowd size wiil be to small to justify the expense.
Just my 2 cents ☺
the problem with Vegas is there really isnt an "off-season" to get better rates and stuff. I'd still go though just cause it would be cool.
On the other hand, Asheville was fantastic. We had a ton of fun in 2 days for dirt cheap.
