My father and I will be going, I have a couple strops to bring too
I hope all is well and that Obie will be attending. I am sorry I cannot be on the list.
I spoke with Allan Boyd last week and told him about it. I will try to make sure he comes. He wants to see you all again and looks forward to it.
I’m looking forward to seeing, and learning from you all. I never leave a meetup with less knowledge. I always am thankful to all that taught me so much. I will go through and look for some strops and such. I want to learn about making strops and this should be a great experience learning from you all again.
The best to you Obie, Thanks David and hope everyone’s summer is going well.

He is doing well
We like this
Of course, with a 1/2 lb of bacon, it has to be good
Tomato pie. Bake 375 degrees
1 9 inch pie crust
4 large tomatoes ( peeled/squeezed whole to remove juice/sliced)
1/2 cup basil
3 onions (chopped)
1/4 cup green pepper (chopped)
1/2 lb. bacon ( cooked/drained) (8 slices)
1/2. tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. Red pepper flakes
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese or 1/2 cheddar and 1/2 mozzarella)
1/4 cup mayonnaise
Bake pie crust 10 min. Until light brown
Peel tomatoes ( put in boiling water for 3-4 min. Skins will peel off)
squeeze out juice - slice - pat on paper towel
To eliminate as much liquid as possible
Alternate layers of ingredients into pie crust.
Mix cheese and mayo. Spread on top.
Cover pie with foil. Bake 25 min.
Remove foil bake 20-25 min. more until top is brown bubbly.
Boy that sounds good Dave!!

LOL!
Is there a limit as to how many people can attend? It's possible that i might be able to come for at least one day.
One month to the Wisconsin Meet
If you would like to attend and have not let me know please do so.
I just put a strop hanger in the garage and have hardware for cutting leather. Ordered a ton of Chicago screws, pastes of various grits and some leather pieces.
I reached back out to Allan Boyd, and he can’t make it, he is going to be in Ohio that weekend. I still need to find out sizes of hardware and such so I can order some for us to make some strops. Any suggestions of sizes, types and what’s a good deal? I have always bought a complete strop or just a replacement leather or in this case, I bought just the roo and replaced a leather with a roo.
I've gotten my hardware such as hangers from Strapworks (2 inch seems to be the biggest i can find any where). they also have D rings and other such things.
Geezer probably won't be here but he sent some linen strop material and linen fire hose.
$4.00 per foot. First come first served
I have plenty Chicago screws and grommets
You will need to bring your leather and hardware
This is sounding more fun all the time!
I may have to unsubscribe from this thread! :rofl2:
Does anyone know of a good source for the leather?
Looking for 3" hardware too.
Pete <:-}
Here you to. This is the last place I ordered parts Razor Emporium.
Is there a way to buy leather to make our own strops, not buy them as strops already? That’s what I’m interested in. Anyone who can give some guidance, that would be super appreciated. Thank you in advance
I bought mine at Tandy. I got half a hide and that makes plenty....
The part closer to the back makes better strops than the belly skin.
Strap cutter , bevel tool, hole punches, needles and thread etc.
One of those things that making your own to save money!:rofl2:
I'm finding a lot of leather out there on eBay, Amazon and different other web sites.
The trick seems to be finding the right kind of leather for a strop that is the right weight/thickness.
I haven't a clue about this. It's kinda expensive so I'd really like to get it right.
The link from Diboll shows leather that looks to be all precut. Kinda takes the "making" out of the equation.
The hardware looks good though.
Pete <:-}
Pete,
You are correct. The link I provided has precut leather for strops. When I built mine I was building a pasted strop and bought my leather at Hobby Lobby. I believe it was actually from Tandy. Quality was not that great and I created a lot of waste getting three good pieces.
I checked out the Razor Emporium site, but they do not give specs on any of their strop accessories. They do not even state whether this is for 2 1/2" or 3" strops. They do not state the length of the leather strop.
Can anyone who has purchased strop parts from Razor Emporium confirm the size? I do a lot better with 3" strops than I do with 2 1/2", especially with a couple of full 3" blades I own.
For the record, for a handle less strop the length of repair leather/ linen is about 26" 24" if you making your own new strop. trim ends as a final action.Found that out the mismatched ends way!

RayClem,
I just went to the Razor Emporium link I posted earlier and if you scroll down, under description, is the statement "Leather and Canvas dimensions have changed slightly. They are still 3'' wide, and are now just under by 20'' long with the screw holes being 19" apart". Since I bought leather elsewhere I can't verify those dimensions. The holes in the handle and buckle I bought from Razor Emporium fit both the hard felt and premium fabric backings I have from SRD.
Measured a couple of strops I have and they are close to that but not exact. Just bought a Tony Miller strop and it is 18 1/2" between screw holes. My SRD Roo strop and a 1/4" hard felt replacement I bought are both 18 1/4" between screw holes. The SRD 3" Premium IV "Long" strop measures 21 1/4" between screw holes.
My knowledge of Razor Emporium replacement parts is now exhausted.
My first step will be a stop at Hobby Lobby to see if they have any leather that looks and feels right.

Remember, just because you are making a 3 inch strop doesn't mean you need your hanger to be for a 3 inch strap. If you notice the leather piece that holds the hanger is notched where it folds over. This is because the hanger ring isn't 3 inches.
To much worry about size in my opinion. If you are making you own and have 2 5/8" who cares. 21" or 26 3/4". ;)
At least to start I would make the components separate so being equal would not be important.
The cost of D rings is cheap and then you can sew the material for a cent or two and never have to worry about taking it apart at least until you cut the D ring loose to reuse it after you nick the heck out of the material.
If I may, those of you who favor the 3 inch strops might just take the opportunity to strop with a 2.5 some while you all are so (luckily) gathered.
If you are like most I have known, you will go to a 2.5 someday anyway. ;)
Most of my strops are 3", but I do have one 2 1/2" Tony Miller linen strop. I can use the lesser width OK with standard 2 3/4" blades. I have issues using the strop with a couple of full 3" blades in my collection.
I have some arthritis in my fingers which make manipulation of the blade difficult as it is. When I add the difficulty of trying to cover the entire blade length using x-strokes, the opportunity for damaging either the strop or the blade increases. For that same reason, I also prefer hones that are at least 2 3/4" wide.
If you are planning on attending and have not PMed me please do so.
hiway Construction
The I-94 Hi-way K exit is closed.
Take the middle Racine exit which is Route 20. This is Washington street which the Comfort Inn is on. Continue east to Emmertsen north to Trefoil Cir
Racine county is giving traffic tickets to fund the road repairs. They are so mean and nasty it is even making the local news.
Observe and obey the speed limits.
Bad news- Good news. Our band has canceled the gig that conflicted with the meet- so I may be able to attend.:D
