Would like to setup a wet shaver meetup in the atlanta area and am wondering how many of us are out there? Chime in if you live in or are near enough to Atlanta to attend a meetup and we can sort something out.

Hope this helps, :D
Not too far...Columbia, SC here. Would be more than happy to drive down.
Lawrenceville, GA here...a meet up sounds good as long as I'm not working.
6 of us so far... not sure how many people it takes to make a good meetup since I never been to one before but maybe 10?
I am just catching up on the forum from being gone all weekend. Thanks for initiating this meet up!
I am in for sure. I grew up in Decatur and live in Lilburn, GA.
Look forward to meeting you all. When you are ready, propose a time and place.
Will N.
Am partial to The Brick Store in Decatur where they have literally hundreds of beers and great food and a good atmosphere for it. It gets crowded on the weekends, maybe a quieter night during the week thinking sometime within the month if everyone agrees.
Let's see if we can get a few more people before setting a date. If we get enough I can reserve the whole upstairs area would be a great spot.
The Brick Store is great. Twains is good too, and Decatur is a pretty centrally located place. As an alternative Manuals Tavern might let us have one of the smaller rooms. I know the guys at The Corner Pub and they would accomodate us as well.
I am pretty open as our travel is somewhat restricted through the end of the year.
I would be willing to host a small event at my home in Dallas 8 or 10 people. Burgers and dogs on the grill. If nobody minds small yippie dogs. My wife and I got 4. Also I have a 6' and 8' folding table but no truck to transport them with right now, and willing to use for the meet if someone else has more room for a meet. Just let me know.
WillN, possibly TheCrash, and I were planning to get together this Thursday at 6pm at The Brick Store in Decatur for a few beers and to discuss organizing the larger 'official' meetup once some of the others in the area have had time to respond. Anyone else interested feel free to join us. PM me if you need directions.
Please if everyone would indicate to this thread something about when they would be available to hold the meetup so that we may try to reach consensus on a good time over the next month. For example, weeknights after 7pm or weekends after 5... We will use this information to try and come up with a few dates and times to choose from. Hopefully we can all get together sometime before the holidays.
I'd be coming in from S. Carolina, so weekends would be best for me. I'll probably get a hotel if anyone else is coming from out of town; be glad to split it with you. Or, if it's just me I may crash in my car. Who knows yet.
When are you guys looking to do this? What are you looking to cover?
I live a couple blocks from the Brick Store if that chooses to be our place for the first meetup. I have space at my place for a guest or two, no worries. Weekends are fine by me, would like to try to get something together before the holidays maybe the first or second weekend in December.
That sounds pretty cool to me. Thanksgiving weekend is spent in the woods. :)
I'm in. I just looked at the map today and was happening that we could have a meetup in the ATL. I just started wet shaving a 5 months back. And pick up a str8 about 4 month ago I really need help honing I actual need a hone. I live in Decatur see you at the brick stone on thur.
Week nights are out. I will be unavailable all Thanksgiving week & weekend. Dec 3rd looks good for me. All other weekends are iffy.
For those of us meeting Thursday let's duscuss some dates to propose to our group. This is a tough time of the year, but I am sure we can make something work out.
Will N.
I work 4 on and 4 off 10 hr shifts 8 am to 6 pm and will start having weekends off the first of the month.
I work rotating 12 hour shifts...days, nights, and 2 weekends a month. Going into December I'll be off the weekend of 9th and 16th.
Had an excellent meetup with WillN in Decatur last night and learned a lot about vintage blades, honing, and many things. My first straight razor meetup of sorts and I would say it was a success!
Over a beer or two at the Brick Store we came to a few conclusions regarding the organization of a proper meetup in Atlanta being that; one, we both recognize the need to make the first 'official' meetup something more significant that will attract everyone into participating and carry over momentum encouraging more future regular meetups in the area and two, that a longer term planning for something well anticipated after the holidays is a wiser choice than rushing into something with a weak turnout before. To set a realistic date on the calendar which can be planned around and draw in as many of us as possible who otherwise have difficult schedules to align.
We have decided probably a weekend afternoon event somewhere central to Atlanta where we will have our own room free to setup a proper show and tell without making everyone around us wonder exactly how crazy we really are ;) WillN has a few contacts and places in mind and will be leading the effort to secure us a great location.
So lets not rush into anything before the holidays instead projecting out possibilities in the February timeframe which we can all plan around and look forward to. There is talk about possibly bringing in a few of the uber-gurus from further away to help really spark interest.
Excellent idea. Let me know if you guys have another informal meet. I don't know what I can do to help but am willing to try. I would however like to know as soon as possible the date so I can request that day off if needed. Darn union requires us to bid our vacation days.
Let me know. Wife and I live in Midtown and can meet anywhere.
Great news everyone, we have settled in on the first weekend in February (4th and 5th) as the date for the first 'official' Atlanta Straight Razor MeetUp!
We are hoping to make this meet-up really shine; the beginnings of what may turn into the epicenter of straight razor shaving enthusiasts across the entire south east. A realistic goal that Atlanta truly has the potential to become but we need everyone's help to pull it off. In order to drum up a respectable crowd (as respectable as a straight razor crowd could be ;)) for our first meet-up we have enlisted the support of some big-BIG-guns and uber-UBER-gurus who are planning to travel from afar to attend if we show significant local and regional interest. I can't give out any names just yet but rest assured it will be very VERY worth your while!
So everyone please get excited and then take a moment to mark the first weekend in February on your calendars and plan the rest of your world around it. Let's hear a shout out right here on this thread from everyone as soon as you have the date locked and loaded with the number of people in your group, the days you are in for (sat, sun, both), if you will need help finding accommodation, and any other information (ie. do you have a trailer I can display my thousand razor collection in -or- would anyone get mad if I brought my lathe and made custom brushes for everyone) that might be useful in helping us plan out the meeting space, events, and give-aways. There will be show and tell. There will be seminars for honing, stropping, product, and technique. There will be the elusive BBS. But most of all there will be lots of good times and great people who share your enthusiasm for wet shaving.
:beer1:
DE users (and maybe even the occasional cartridge user ;)) are all invited!
That is the time frame people and we are excited about this meet up! Please look at your schedules and plan to attend AND please post or PM so that we can begin to get a count of how many to expect.
Like Daryl said above, we will look for an appropriate space for our meet and I have a few in mind depending on the number to attend. Let's keep this thread bumped up and get some numbers to ensure those big guns come to help us all learn.

I am off on the 5th and trying to trade shifts with another dispatcher. My enabling wife will likely join us too.
Good news!
I am thinking to organize a soap swap where perhaps everyone grates up a bar of their favorite soap and divides it into baggies and pass them around for all to try. We can even post our choice to the forum here to prevent two people picking the same soap. Thoughts?
This event definitely has some possibilities!!!! We used to live in Atlanta. Great place for a Gathering!!
As I remember it, Atlanta is a great town, have fun guys. Wished I could go. :(
Hey did we miss you at the Brick Store? If so I am really very sorry, didn't get this post until just now somehow. I apologize. Hey I will give you a call tomorrow and maybe we can meet up over a beer and talk honing. I just finished restore and bevels and hone on my first 9 razors off ebay, lots of work my neck is aching me the old man I am ;) Alright then give you a shout tomorrow and again sorry if we missed you and hope you will join us at the Meetup the first weekend in Feb.
As far as I can tell, Feb 4 & 5 would work for me.
All the way from Alabama! Clearly there will be awards for the furthest travelers ;) Will you be dragging along any others and will you need help finding a place to stay? My apartment can easily couch surf one or two intrepid gypsies if anyone enjoys the adventure, otherwise there is a really nice Holiday Inn just off the square in Decatur that would be a great common stay within seconds walk from the Brick Store and other good pedestrian options for food and shopping.

I was thinking we could go out as a group for dinner saturday night and breakfast sunday morning.
A request has been made to add S.E to the name of this thread to hopefully be an easier find for people around the entire South East region. I have no clue how to do it though, any help? Admin?
I have a commitment from at least 3 more local enthusiasts / beginners that will attend.
Let's keep this bumped up and get a good crowd committed for THAT 1ST WEEKEND in FEB.
Like Daryl asked above, can someone help him add "S.E." to the title of this thread?
Thanks.
