It's now a nightly ritual for me, put on some music, grab a bourbon and shave. The unique part for me, is the only thing I shave is my head... I've never had a straight touch my face. I come from the bald head with beard group and so my entire learning experience has been shaving my dome. It scared the ever living crap out of me when I first started, but now it's amazing. Start to finish, I'd say a WTG/XTG head shave takes me about 15min. Just be warned, that if you commit to Movember with a straight razor for your head.... you may never go back.
Oh well now you've got some EXPERIENCE! I think I WILL go back, though. It's not the actual act that's holding me back, it's the look. I look like I'm terminally ill without hair, I don't look scary or super fit with no hair like some guys do. Plus I have an army reunion in November and I don't want to look like a dickhead...So I'm still to-ing and fro-ing on it...
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Yes a bald head is something to get use to, I had a a very hard receding hair line in my teens. then through my early twenty's it was apparent the whole top of my head was thinning. I started out with clippers, at 1" then kept going shorter, and shorter as my hair magically dissappeared. I was down to just the clipper itself, and still had a hard time deciding to shave my head, it just didn't feel right. So it is an adjustment (even if you barely have hair), I felt the same way you did but it's probably just you that's going to feel like you look like a dickhead, most likely you won't look like one, and no one else will think that either. After shaving my head for so many years, I can't imagine having hair, I think it would look silly.

You only generally look like a dickhead if you aren't confident with your look, obviously this isn't always the case, but it works as a general rule

Think....... Yul Brynner, Telly Savalas, Bruce Willis, Vin Diesel, Billy Zane, and some other really cool characters like Mr. Clean, Elmer Fudd, Mr. Magoo

Oh well, that's put at end to that idea then; the wife says 'no'...
