I think it's a Greywacke stone, although I have also seen some barber hones with a somewhat similar label and size. The Greywacke can be from prefinishers up to fine finishers, but leave a somewhat harsh edge. More photos could help with the identification.
It's a grey Badesdone finisher,,,mined in Eastern Europe, around 15K to 18K. Not as rare as an Echer, but quite a good stone. Hopefully you got it for a good price. Thanks for sharing it. :D
44 bucks on eBay. That pretty good price for it?
Gentlemen, is this not the stone we are talking about?

What is this Badesdone hone?
The greywacke sticker does look identical. Here are more pics.

Nice one, really.
But I have seen so many different and rare stones, a new one with strange name woke my HAD. And eastern Europe, there are no stones coming from there. One more reason to want one, although the 15/18k grit rating was indeed fishy.
Well, now I'm disappointed... That empty feeling that only a new highly regarded rare stone can fill.
Never trust anything from Eastern Europe, that's where vampires come from. I'm excited to see what kind of stone this will be on my blade.
The only reason I pulled this joke was to lead aa1192 a ways down the silly path, for posting a single pic in the OP that looked like it was taken with a Secret Decoder Ring.
The follow-up photos in post # 7 were much better & may eventually help to identify the stone.
It does seem to be a nice looking stone.
I figured that sticker would be the biggest hint. Based on the same sticker on the greywacke at the strop shop I feel pretty confident that's it. Neil miller runs that store correct? Googling, I can't find much about this stone or people who have tried/reviewed it.
I know very little about the identity of stones,,, I just know that I like learning about them , as guys post them.
Good quality photos of all sides, maybe a few slurry shots, always help. A close up of the written label will tell a lot.
When I buy a stone, razor or anything that I collect, the first question I ask the seller, after I ask the price, is "Do you have any history on it?"
There is no rainbow colored PHIG?! I don't know where to believe in any more....
I don't keep my stones, unless they are paperweights. Usually, I buy them, test them, keep notes about them, and resell them in about the price I bought them, a year later. That's how having HAD while I scrape by day to day works...
aa1192, yes, the strop shop uk is Neil Miller's. And, he is one of the most knowledgeable people about stones. The SRP hones section wouldn't feel the same without him.
All you have to do is follow the instructions on the back and find for yourself how the stone performs, the reviews are meaningless if you have the stone in front of you. You like it, or you don't.
Well it's not been delivered yet and I'm curious and impatient to see what she's got. Do you usually sell your stones in the classifieds or somewhere else Vas?
The stone should leave a fine but somewhat harsh edge.
I always sell, and regularly buy from the classifieds. I like this more personalized experience, where, it's not just a buyer-seller transaction, both the buyer and seller know exactly what they are selling/want to buy, with fewer surprises, and most of the members are gentlemen. They won't turn their back on you if something goes wrong, and more importantly, they are willing to help you even if the problem lies not with the item you bought from them.
But, for the new guys, SRP wiki already has most of the answers, so, everyone, read it carefully.
