Okay, so I am still claiming I don't have HAD. Hanging with Wolfpack all the time makes this very hard. I was perfectly happy with 8 stones but as it turns out he was right about NEEDING the Frictionites and Carbs . The one that is a strop/hone combo I bought for the very nice W&B inside. The other 2 are Ducks, so of course I couldn't pass on them. Even if 1 happened to be A Fern something or other. Zak pointed on that one and I pulled both barrels immediately.
After reading the above posts, I am of the understanding that I do not have HAD.
A quick tally!
Chosera 1k
King 400
Kiing 800
other Kings to 6K
Norton 4-8
Couple Shaptons
8 Coticules plus slurry stones
About 15+ Thuringians and four labeled Escher blue through Y/g.
About 11 Strop Hones of varying quality.
About 6 slates like but not all CHUG's
2 J-nat ( cheapies)
20 some barber hones
6 Arkies of small to useful size
10 other naturals
A few folding cased razor boxes/hones with strops and hones built in.
Some Diamond hones/lapping plates
Never can tell but what a box may surface and add to the assortment.
Keep the replies coming..I am enjoying the thread!

In a spare car,,,, booby-trapped spare car,,,:beer2:
I now call this meeting of HADiholics anonimous to order. Now let's go through the steps together. I am (place name here). I suffer from HAD. I have only what I need. Oh wait...that's a real nice coticule. How much? .......:rofl2:
There was a nice new coticule, but Jimmy got it,,,
Having kicked the habit for the most part :p All I can say is when I started thinking that a palm stone from Japan costing $500.00 was a pretty good deal.... I had to step back and really think about things. I can't say it was an easy year but I got better :p
All I can say Now is that I have enough to last me through till my grand kids have kids :p
I'd love to be around, in spirit, when they read my will to my grandkids,,,
Executor,
"Your dear grandfather Hirlau loved you so,
he left you each with 100 hones.
He left you no money, no land;
nor a place to call a home.
Grandfather Hirlau suffered from H.A.D.,
He hopes you'll understand."
I have to control my HAD (and my RAD) for the lack of space in my apartment (and wife was getting mad) but i'm still wondering to get some more hones and razors.
...And this is how i feel everyday: :( :banghead:
For knife shapening:

Wow, I just love these threads. You guys always put to shame my humble collections.
Now I can show this to the Lady if she comments on how I got so much shaving stuff. I can just tell her it could be worst.

Cheers.
Strops? Oh NO!
Bench, paddle, loom or hanging? ;)
Ha! Richard and Jimmy are not the problem. There's a guy at B&B who recently posted a pic of a table-full of cotis and he mentioned there was over $5,000 worth sitting there! And no, not a dealer either! :hmmm:
That was the duck trip! I saw that. And TWO 8x 2 hybrids? Thats too many for one table. They gotta let us draw the water from the well.
9 ain't a lot of coticules, for a normal person ....... ...... if they ever go back up in $ to what they were when I got 'em, I'll get down to 2 or 3. Until then they stay in the cabinet.
Now taking orders.Attachment 186261
I actually had to check again.
I have four full sized coticules but one (old mineage) has inclusions rendering it useless apart from the blue backing (used on kitchen cutlery). The others are 6x10cm, 4x18cm and 5x20cm. Then two smaller coticules, slurry stone sized: one triangular (didn't measure, not going to) and one 1.5x9cm used as a full-fledged hone.
Then one small Thüringer, one Cretan for bevel setting and one tiny cheapo diamond hone for serious issues.
So all in all, seven. I use maybe three on a 'regular' basis. 'Regular' meaning the few times a month (maybe) that I hone a razor.
Allright, here goes!
- 3 cheap Chinese diamond hones for the really bad jobs (mainly on other stones)
- DMTs in 4 grits for serious to regular bevel setting work
- a smallish Cretan I never use
- an Aloxite barber hone I never use
- about 8-10 coticules in all sizes, vintage/newly bought/cut myself
- some Japanese stone on loan from a friend
I'm actually planning to get rid of all those I don't use, I don't have issues with HAD at all in fact.
