Learned the nortons, naniwa's, shapton gs's. Sold the nortons & naniwa's. Picked up the Chosera 1K. Now interested in the chosera lineup. Finishers is where I keep a variety of proven stones & my passion flairs up once an a while when I see a new gal of interest.
To the OP, i think its very cool that you found a system that works for you, and obviously your happy with the results. I see many new guys on here always chasing the new stone that will give them the ultimate edge when all they have to do is spend time learning the ones they already have.
What you say is spot on Martin, but with a lot of guys, speaking from my own experience relative to ADs, it is the action as much, or more, than the item.
Which is why some of us go from razors, to stones, to brushes, to strops, to ....... ad infinitum. :whipped:
I have been satisfied with the naniwa stones 1-3-5-8-12 and the finisher being the 20K but today I honed a razor that I wish I had something a little more course. I worked on the razor with the 1000K naniwa and thought I had the bevel set and then went through the others. well I had to go back through the process again. I really think that a courser stone will speed the process up some. now I just have to decide which one.
Ever since getting the Gokumyo 20k I've been settled. At some point I'll have to replace my 4k with something as I've never been really happy with the Norton 4k. But until that day comes, I'm good.
The Naniwa SuperStone 1k (not 1000k) is a bit soft and is not a workhorse bevel setter. A good option for something more coarse is either a Naniwa Chosera (now Professional) 600 or 800. They are more aggressive but both of their scratch marks are easily removed by the SuperStone 1k.
Yea 1000K was kind of type O. But I'm old I can get away with type Os.
