Some have labels glued to the bottom and smaller stones labels are wrapped around the ends. Most labels did not survive, I usually scrape off labels off most things I buy, and cut the tags of mattresses, pillows and most of my clothing, just a pet peeve.
Recently bought a 2.5 X 5 in Blue Green Thüringen with glue on the edges, the top and bottom were smooth.
It probably was/is a labeled Escher stone, but without a label cannot be proved to be and Escher, just a damn good Thüringen and a nice finisher at that. To me, it does not matter, I don’t plan on selling it and did not pay anything near an Escher price.

Euclid440,
Thanks for the clarification. That makes since. I can't imagine most of them still having the labels/stickers after being used wet over the years. I understand a lot of buyers would need proof before paying the Escher price for a stone though. If it turns out to be a good stone ,Escher or Thuringian, I won't be selling it anyway.
