Looks like a curb stone from #920?
I suppose flatten the good side and see what it and the slurry look like? Give it a try?
What type of stone should I use to create slurry?
A very hard Arkansas or a diamond plate hone (the credit card size works fine)
It looks like slate to me. I would say flatten about half of it with a DMT and that, in itself, should create a pile of slurry. If you still think it is slate, you might try a thurri slurry stone to give it a try? If you like it, I suppose you could do the whole thing.
It's huge!
Looks like a slate....is it a Purple one ? Is that round blotch in green color ? Please create some wet daylight shots and some daylight slurry pics...
My guess is that you might have picked up some purple welsh slate which was also used for Roofing Slate and yes also for Housenumbers, i will later add the link to this thread...
Looks not like the purple variant...was that one from UK ? And another, is the number within a wood sign or is it on the back of the stone...?
Here is the reference check the post and Neils information...also the sign for the Housenumber or Name which is used there quite often...

The number is on the stone I will add pic of that too.. I read your link and this seems like the same stone. It definayely has the same green spots and after playing around for few minutes (I'm only a beginner). It feels like a vintage thuri and would only be better with some lapping
Looks more purple now after cleaning up some
More. Found lots of green spots as well. Attachment 207102Attachment 207103Attachment 207104Attachment 207105
Ok looks like a purple welsh slate with green inclusions....Try out honing on this one and see where it brings you in the end...
However it looks nice!!
They must be pretty uncommon or under the radar, I havent come
Across Another of these Llyn Melynllyn or Yellow Lake hones before. Seems to be a great hone
Now that is the size stones I like. One would think that in the land mass of America there would be numbers of stone styles. Searches so far have not yielded much info except arkansas, going to try different search criteria.
US Geological survey and finding the specific type of deposit will lead to some finds.
Any updates ? Could you test the Stone Mikeinri ?
I have used this stone since posting the pics. It does give a great edge on knives but have not tried on razor. I have another smaller one I usually use being I have not lapped this one flat yet.
