I suppose flatten the good side and see what it and the slurry look like? Give it a try?

It looks like slate to me. I would say flatten about half of it with a DMT and that, in itself, should create a pile of slurry. If you still think it is slate, you might try a thurri slurry stone to give it a try? If you like it, I suppose you could do the whole thing.
