    Default Man made Escher Hone.

Looks to be a man made Coticule from Escher. Anyone know anything about it?

It was always a discussion if they ever really used Coticule Dust on those....i personally dont think so but maybe iam wrong...probably Peter knows more details here ;-)

There was a utility model registered from JGES concerning the men made thuris...

Here is more on the utility model, actually its in german:

I'm curious to see it when it gets here. The saturation in the pictures is making me curious about the actual colors of the stone. I've been curious about these later man made eschers so it will be cool to try it out. Obviously it's "extra fine" but other than that I have no clue what it says lol.

Those are cool. I never seriously tried acquiring one because I am wary of old binders in synths.

Well the stones were made by the later Escher company JGES after they moved from Sonneberg to Theuern/ Thuringia. Beside their trading of natural hones they began from the 1930's on more and more to produce artificial hones. Besdie the artificial Escher hone which was really made from the sawdust of thuringian hones, they also tried to imitate belgian coticule hones. Since they have not sold and cut natural belgian hones at their workside I personally don't believe, that they used sawdust of coticules for this product. And it is hard to believe that any of the coticule producers in Belgium traded sawdust to a competitor in Germany for producing artificial coticules.

Here are some more informations to artifical Escher hones:

I know nothing of any of this but as I was reading, I was wondering is it possible they bought say 100 coticule a to grind them up to make say 1000 synthetic ones? I don't know. Just a thought as they would stand to make a lot of money if this was possible and they would have more control over quality by making a synthetic?

I have always been interested in these stones, but have never had one in my hand.
