    Please recommend me a hone(s)

I have fallen head over heels for kamisori. I lucked into one on an ebay bid, and have an Azuma and a Inoue Tosuke arriving this week.

I hone on: King 1000 for bevel setting, Norton 4/8 and Naniwa 12k.

I would like to try some other /better hones - Jnats etc

Can someone give me a "shopping list" of hones I might consider to take my honing to the next level?

    thanks

Message jnats, aka garrett. He has vast knowledge on the subject and will guide you into the right hone, on any budget.

You really are set with what you've got. Anything beyond that will be more for satisfying your curiosity and depleting your bank account. If you must go to the next level, the Suehiro Gokumyo 20k is a nice predictable next level option on the high grit end. I think that they cost over $200 now.

The Naniwa Pro1k is the next level at the low grit end.

Natural stones will be a hit or miss thing so I really hesitate to recommend a particular one. Contact a vendor you trust and put your wallet in their hands. Just make certain that you can try the hone and return it if you are not satisfied with it.

I started with a Norton 4/8 and was less then thrilled with it. I later switched to Naniwa SS 5k,8k and 12k)and I couldn't be happier. I've not touched the Norton once since I got them. I would also 2nd Utopian's recommendation of the Naniwa Pro (Chosera) 1k.

Same thing. Was called Super Stone but now it's Specialty Stone.

I used to lie under the coffee table while my mom did the housework (I WAS 1968...) and stare at the woman in the whipped cream for hours.... kinda blew my mind....

thanks. I was looking at the 12K hone I bought from SRD - its on the brown plastic base and its marked S12000.

I bought it two years ago - is this the Super Stone?

With the brown plastic base, I would assume it to be the SuperStone. They are excellent. Seriously you can spend a lot of money (and I have ) and you only will end up with a slight improvement beyond what that hone can do for your edges.
