Had a little gamble today. Won an auction for £11. What it is I have no idea, nor did the seller who couldn't even spell natural correctly.
I think it's probably a purple slate. It looks older than AJ's by a fair margin and the dimensions seem odd for a UK stone of age. The seller also had another 2 stones that were in other auctions that looked old as well so I suspect these came to him in a single house clearance or similar.
Listed as 5 1/2 x 2 3/4 x 7/8 I actually think it's a 140mm x 75 x 20 cut. If I'm right on the dimensions then the chance of it not been a slate and been something all together more European might be plausible.
The pictures are shocking. A gamble is as a gamble does and I'm prepared for a £11 slate. Would you have bid :D
