That's the gospel, and to me it makes sense.

That said, I have never felt much of a difference between different strops. I have all SRD strops, and they all work. Exactly the same, too. Out of personal preference, I almost exclusively use the extra long bridle leather with a replacement canvas side custom made by Torolf of Scrupleworks.

I got a escher from an estate sale. It is 5 x 2.5. I tried using it with slurry and just got terrible results. When I was back In NY my retired barber friend said I'll show you how to hone a razor. There was a good bevel on the razor and he did about 15-20 laps on an 8k Naniwa, 10-15 laps on a 12k Naniwa then took the escher and razor to the sink and started lapping the razor on the escher under running water. He said feel this. I lapped it and the blade was very sticky and he said your ready to go. I stropped it on my Mastro Livi loom strop and man what great shave. Edge popped arm hair but most of all it was the smoothest shave I ever had. An escher really makes the blade soft as my friend said. Nothing like the escher edge.

Plenty of hones (over 20). Multiple strops. Plenty of experience/skill (over 35 yrs). I get fantastic edges from many different combinations and enjoy experimenting with different progressions. Nothing wrong with the Escher edges. They were great. I have just been able to duplicate or better them with hones that were much less expensive.

Maybe I'm getting to be more of a minimalist in my old age. I traded in my twin turbo V8 BMW 550i in on a new 3.5L Nissan Altima SL and have no regrets. OK, maybe a little regret :)

kelbro, traded my old BMW 325i in the other day....just came back from my first real drive in the BMW 550i GT with the V8 twin turbo's that I picked up today...Lord Mother of Gawd....those Turbo's....was going 120 kmph....gave it a goose, and was doing 167 kmph and didn't feel it or know it until I saw the tiny little headlights of the car I passed way back in the distance, wife said it was 187...yikes....0-60 in 5.2 seconds....this thing is a monster....hope not to die this weekend....:o

Oh yeah, that car was a beast. I had a tune on it that gave me 440hp. Very little turbo lag. When they kicked in, look out! Rode like a dream too on the highway. I put 55,000 miles on it smiling all the way.

My wife has a 1SB Corvette. 60th Anniversary convertible stick shift behind a 505hp 427ci engine. It's a little quicker off the line but at the top end, I think the 550i was a little more pleasant to maneuver.

Awesome, turbo lag, not quite there yet...would be great if you could PM the info on the tune if you still have it....

Now, big leap from 2001 BMW to iDrive...figuring out if I can Bluetooth stream my music from my iPhone 6s through the stereo, and leaning voice commands.....

This beast has legs, had an Audi outpace me a little bit off the start, then eating dust in my rear view two seconds later....:dropjaw:

Lol, the Audi will take you off the line every time (barring driver error) because it's AWD. BMWs have always had a good top end though. That is a characteristic of cars with more HP than torque.

And you are talking 2 hour drive for the round trip right? :rock:
