I really like the Naniwa 12k for it's performance. I couple it with either my Escher or Jnat and chromium oxide to not only put a sharp edge but a smooth edge.

Honed up my bengal this weekend. Silky smooth off the 12 k. Must admit though I took the razor back to true bevel set first. Watched gssixgun on the tube a few times, and then hit the stones. Just wanted to watch and re-learn his techniques. Paid off with a real nice shave this evening.
Great finish hone. That one is easy to learn as it is so universally popular, IMO.
Good thing to have! :tu
Several years ago after I'd been getting very nice edges off of my Norton 8K I was introduced to the Naniwa 12K by my mentor here at SRP and I fell in love with it!
A friend here at SRP had spent Thousands of dollars buying and selling natural rocks trying to find the 'ONE' that worked for him. When I told him of how much I loved the Naniwa 12K he sort of just 'Poo Poo'ed' me.
So I bought him one! I bought it through an out of the way (home based) seller so when it landed he had no idea about who had sent it. Well he contacted me and asked me about it and I played 'Stupid' but said, "Well you have one, why not try it"? Well he did and and LOVED IT! Then I fessed up and despite my resistance he sent the funds to pay for it.
If you were to ask my friend what he thinks about that hone I do believe he'll tell you that it's a real Work Horse and a wonderful hone.
Hopefully he'll reply in person.
That was a gutsy move to put on a natural-finisher chaser, Roy!
While it was not me, I thank you!
Some of us love the chase. Some of us just love results!
YMMV
Maybe it'd be good to add another stone to the kit.
This one would fall between the coti and thuri I am guessing? Or perhaps replace the coti all together on some blades.
It is synthetic.....Best used to follow an established regimen of synthetic hones, IMO.
Not a 'cure-all', so to speak.
Just a damn good finisher which has many threads devoted to it from which to learn.
Other end of the spectrum, I suppose?
