Default Naniwa superstone 12k - my thoughts

So I purchased a Naniwa 12k after giving it much consideration. I currently own a Norton 4/8 and for a long time that was my only finisher. I recently acquired some lapping film and got mixed results.

Yesterday my super stone came in and I put a finishing edge on my Packwood razor. Previously it was only finished with the Norton. It gave me a nice shave with only the Norton. After doing if a few passes with the super stone, I inspected the edge and saw a nice mirror finish. Almost all scratches were removed and it easily pass the hanging hair test.

I shaved with it this morning and the shave was great. There was a noticeable difference in the sense that my shave required less strokes to remove my beard. So I feel like my skin is less irritated and there was perhaps a little less pull. It was subtle but noticeable. I'm only providing this information in my experience to help others who are considering getting a Naniwa 12k and who currently on a Norton 4/8. The Naniwa is affordable as finishing stones go, but still quite an investment, and in my opinion worthwhile.

Considering there always seems to be questions about finishing stones, I hope this post helps some others who might be considering the purchase of a Naniwa.

It will get better too, as you learn it more. Just like your 8k did, in a way you really do good. It seems you have learned to max out your 8k to get great shaves.

    Congrats. Tc

    Nope.
    You can't do that.
You can't make an announcement like that without saying what you got.

+1 to everything said above. I use my Nani 12k to refresh every couple weeks. Then a good stropping and the shave is beyond amazing

The Naniwa 12k is almost a necessary upgrade in my opinion. Even if you are happy with a Norton 8k edge after a little experience with the 12k you will recognize that its a game changer to your concept of shave ready.

Yep, the Nani 12 seems to be the 1st real synthetic finisher most move up to after learning to max out their 8k's. And it gives a great edge!

But then if you fall down into the bottomless pit of HAD with natural finishers, there is no bottom...

Perhaps not, but HAD does ease up a bit when you're looking at your hone shelf and thinking perhaps you should either tone it down before you have enough bricks to start a foundation, or at least shore up that poor shelf before it collapses under the weight of the rocks.
