I don't know. I don't read it as UK material. Since ppl in europe find it from time to time I don't think it is from here in North America either but came over with people. It might be German.

It is a Swedenstein thuringian - a bit coarser and faster that the average thury . They varie also from soft to hard - and they gave surprisingly gooood shaving edge - like a Jnat goood or very fine and goood coti edge - Sharp and smooth

I have a black Schwedenstein Thuringian that does very well. Mine is quite hard, fast with slurry and a pretty smooth finisher.

Not a "Swede" in my opinion.
"Just" a banded slate. But that doesn't say anything about the performance! There are a lot of black slates out there, that are fantastic finishers. In Germany and also many other countries most slates that were mined for building houses, roofs etc. have small abrasive particles like quartz included and are therefore good useabla as a whetstone. Not all are fine enough though but a lot have real good performance as a razor hone.
