You're in South Africa, right? Have you looked for Zulu Grey stones? Maybe you can get them locally for cheap.
First time ive heard of it do you know its grit
No such luck but thank you
Nobody can guarantee a grit rating for a natural stone. But it is a 'finishing' stone, so > 8000 grit. Some members compared it favorably with a Naniwa 12k.
On another tangent, here is a solution with lapping film on aluminium plates. Ricky sells those on Etsy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge-rvSe0f6w
What is the life expectancy of lapping film
I can buy a cheap 3000 8000 stone for the same price of 5 different grits film but the work will be spread thinner over 5 so it could eaven out if its a cheap and nasty stone
PM Euclid about the lapping films. If I remember right, he's well versed in them. I don't know how much lapping film costs, but I know this. I put off buying a lapping plate for quite a while because the DMT costs about 60 USD after shipping. More than I wanted to spend when sand paper is only 3 or 4 bucks a package. After spending well over 50 bucks in low grit sand paper packages, I finally realized I would've been money ahead to have just bought a lapping plate.
Lapping film may be cheap and expedient if you're only going to have a razor or two to maintain. But if you get into collecting, restoring, or even just honing a lot for practice you might quickly find yourself wearing the film out and racking up a lot of money replacing it.
Treu when this set arives I will see Im considering a shavette if the gold dollar performs acceptable I will reconsider
Ive tried pasting some sand paper to a glass pane it was creud but I learned something , even if it looks flat the gleu can dry and warp the baper just a bit or the gleu can seep in parts of the paper but not all drying with the grit and some parts will harden more than others ,there is just too much variabels for such a fine edge
Here is a vid of using lapping paper to hone with. Water is used to bond the paper to the backing and wet it prior to honing.
