Default New Jnats added to the famaly

I asked a reputable vendor to find a 150mmx75mmx25-30mm fast cutting but very fine Nakayama for razor finishing and honestly thought he had forggot about me. I have since bought a Hatanaka Nakayama kiita that is very fine that I love. Then about two and a half weeks ago I got a email saying he found one to my specs.I looked and was very impressed with a huge(for me anyway) a Nakayama 4.5 lv.
160mm×95mm×43mm that weighs over a kilo and a half. I asked if he had a stamped Botan nagura as I was having trouble finding one and got this beauty.Name: 20170628_114328.jpg

Sealed them in super blonde and amber shellac that I make with flakes and mix for the color I like.

    Thanks from the Happy family,

They look great, you mentioned they are fast. Do you really get much from a Botan (being a coarser nagura), my limited knowledge would lead me to Koma, or Tomo for finishing?

    Hello Bobski,
I purchased the Botan nagura for my knives more than my straight razors, but will test where it fits in my progression. Definately not for finishing though, I use my tomo for that and final finish with water only on the little bad a** kiita. On a side note I have tested using a swendi slurry stone(fast cutter) then a blue thuri slurry stone followed by a yg/b thuri and finished on my kiita tomo for my aogami super steel and white #1 knives with good results. Every now and then I would find a rouge scratch that would drive me crazy so that is why I purchased the Botan to see if that would help alleviate that for me. I tested my new Nakayama today with one straight razor and the shave was very nice similar to my yg/b thuri but is three to four times as fast and twice as fast as my kiita. The kiita though puts a lazer edge that I love as I have a pretty thick beard and need a keen edge to get a comfortible shave.

    Thank You,
    Israel

P.S. It seems that I make a lot of spelling errors. I can't even spell family, Lol wish I caught that sooner. Sorry for that I need to start proofreading before I post.

Really like the stone on the right. I've gotten a couple like the one on the left, but when touching up a razor, they're a bit heavy. On the bench, they're a bit short - but that could just be me. We all have our methods.

In the end, though, whichever one makes it easier to get the razor just the way you want it will be the one you prefer.

    Hello DavidW,
Thank you for your comments, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your youtube videos on oil stone and Jnats. They taught me what to look for when I bought my oil stones especially my washitas which I love. I could not have done it without your help and I am sure that I am not the only one. Glad to hear you are feeling better heathwise, and will look forward to read your post here on SRP.

    Thank You Very Much,
    Israel

A very nice thing to say, Israel. I can't even remember who asked me questions to make those videos, and I'm no end all be all of anything, just another purchaser of stuff who only knows what you find out when you buy too much.

Glad to find that you and others are getting washitas. They are great - maybe the greatest example of a stone that seems like nothing when you first get one but rewards user skill more than any other. I don't know how much I'm responsible for it, but there is one drawback to talking them up - it used to be pretty easy for me to find good hardly used unmarked washitas for about $40. They're a lot more now unless you find them in a listing error or without a description (or locally).
