    I don't think anyone can tell you what grit it is. Fine enough to comfortably shave off. Slurry doesn't make it cut that much faster.

    I would say that it's 'approximately equivalent' to an 8K with slurry and a 10K with plain water. Based on scratch patterns. But, the thuri edge still seems to shave 'softer' than a synthetic.

    The SRP Library, always a font of great knowledge, has this well put together chart that offers some grit ratings and comparisons....Escher and various hones in there.

    Hones - comparison table - Shave Library

    I would agree that they tend to be around 12k, depending on the actual stone, the range I'd say IMO only would be 10k to 15k...

    I'm a complete newbie to honing,actually never done any. But for my first stone purchase I went for a light green Thuri after everything I've read about the comfortable edge it finishes with thinking I'd do my own touch ups with it.
    Now I'm thinking I'd like to try my hand at the full progression.
    Can you guys give me your opinion if you think this would be a good way to go?
    Was thinking a Chosera 1000, Shapton Pro 5000, Thuri with slurry,finish with Thuri and water only.

    I highly advise that you see IF you can PROPERLY touch up your razor before even thinking about purchasing hones to correct bevels and then hone back to shave ready.

    Improper Stropping can damage an edge. Improper honing can destroy one.

    While there are always the exception to the rule I always advice to wait at Least a year before learning to hone. That gives you time to learn how to Properly Strop, Make Lather and of course Shave.

    This age old art has a huge learning curve but with patience it's a rewarding skill. Take your time, go slow and you will be rewarded.

    Hey Skinflint;

    I grew up in Joisy just outside Princeton, many good memories. Hot dogs on the Staten Island Ferry and Coney Island. I miss the Pretzels from downtown NYC. I remember Palisades amusement park and the NY Worlds Fair when I was a kid. Anyway..

    A light green thuri is a final finisher, a little faster cutter than a yellow green thuri. Both are very fine razor finishers. However your razors edge needs to be taken to the maximum level of it's capability prior to use. If used correctly it can improve the edge off a Suehiro 20K. Some J-nats and French stones can do this as well.

    I find the 12K to be a good finisher, but using a Coticule or an Escher afterwards gives me comparable shaves but only smoother.

    So it's all close to each, they all finish a razor

    On slurry? No idea, but I don't think it changes that much compared to on plain water.
