Aloxite razor home

I recently picked up an Aloxite Razor Hone in an antique store. It is in very good condition, no excessive wear, no chips. It looks like it was never used. It needs to be cleaned. How do you prepare this hone for use? Does it need to be lapped? What kind of stone is this hone? I am assuming the name Aloxite it a brand name. What grit is this stone? Finally, how do you use this hone? Have these stones been replaced by pasted strops? Since it it a hone do you tape your spine? (I always use one layer of tape on my spine). Thanks in advance for your answers.

Barber hone, don't lap. Just scrub with soap, water, and a scotch Brite pad. She'll be ready to go. Aloxite is the brand. Typically barber hones are used as touch up stones. When you feel the razor tug/shave improperly, give the blade 5 to 10 licks on the hone and see how it feels. Repeat as needed.

I wouldn't say they've been replaced by pasted strops, these will likely bring back an edge that is beyond what can be fixed with CrOx and stropping. They remove a good amount of material in not a lot of time. Play with it, you'll be surprised what it can do.
