Needed a stone for touching up my razor and found this for 25bucks at a woodworking shop. Claims 12000+ hard polihing stone. The old addage you get what u pay for is ringing in my ears. Anyone have experiance with this stone? It is slate grey 8×2

We refer to them as phigs.
Peoples Hone of Indeterminable Grit.
Some seem to like theirs. I have not tried one.
Do a search for 12k Chinese, etc. Has been discussed....And Cussed! :D

Gold Dollar razors aren't recommended as a QUALITY RAZOR I've honed many for those who wished to 'try' to get by inexpensively but even though after a lot of work and being able to get a decent edge the owners found as you have that the steel is inferior and won't hold an edge for long/especially if you have a tough beard.Quote:

I am wary of any site that assigns a grit to a natural. If they will make false assumptions what else will they do? Some like theirs some have not. Sone go thru several before they get one that's good. And yes price sometimes is a good indicator, if they could they would charge more, save your money and buy a naniwa 12k and be done with it. Tc

Just lapped and honed my razor on it. One side has 2 softer clouds in it and the other has some orange spots that look like stains and didnt seem to hurt anything. Its no 12000 but with a little work the razor is cutting hanging hairs again the entire length of the blade.
A good mentor for honeing and stropping would be invaluable. Thanks for all the advise. As far as waiting to start honeining, im an extremely obsessive different type of person for sure. I promice i wont get disouraged on u.
