sealing label on hone?

i have a vintage#1 `norton washita.

i use it and would like to preserve whats left of the label on side.

the japanese naguras are sealed with cashew laquer

what easily available US product should i use?

I have used Minwax Sanding Sealer for the last 8 years to do labels with excellent results

Three coats and haven't had a failure yet, and anyone that has watched me hone in person on in a vid knows I don't baby my hones

I remember a while back Glen told me the same thing.
The problem I had was that I couldn't find it in any smaller sizes.
Mostly gallons available in my area at the big box home improvement stores. It was pretty expensive and I only had a few hones to do. For me, a gallon was overkill.

I did a lot of homework on this.
I ended up using Mod-Podge matte aerosol.
I got it in the craft aisle at Walmart for around five bucks.
It's actually made for sealing paper.
Did five coats on each hone.
The results were awesome. Very durable and lasting.

I used a Minwax acrylic spray sealer. Dont remember the name but it sealed the back of my Jnat very well. It did have a little goldish color after drying. I bet it would seal a label well too.

Menards sells it for $19 USD a quart.

That would be many hones!

We don't have any Menard's stores nearby. I think it's a Midwest thing.

I remember finding a quart somewhere for around $22.00.
Too much leftover sealer sitting idle and going to waste.

I was worried about two things before I did this:

-Whatever I used dissolving the glue and taking the label right off.
- Whatever I used causing the ink to smear or bleed.

For me, the Mod Podge did the trick with absolutely no problems.

I used Varathane on what was left of mine. Taped it off and sprayed it. pushed the label down here and there for a long while.
Another coat. So far, so good. Lotsa water.....
