Thanked: 169Anyone have anything similar?
Got this in truly dreadful shape. Not hard to lap, slurry smells like wet plants. No layering in the sides but the colors shift subtly and there are intermittent fissures which haven't moved despite needing aggressive lapping. Was used with water but was stored who knows where with other oil stones of various types so there was minor cross contamination but it is accepting water without complaint. Bottom looks like it was cut with a geologist's hammer. Still need to tweak the lap and clean up vulnerable spots. I may seal it in some salt to try drawing out any other superficial oil. Strange, it reminds me of several things but nothing exactly.

Thanked: 4830It is attractive looking. Where does it fit in a progression?
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Thanked: 169Only put a knife to it so far that was fading a bit as I need to clean it up a bit more for razors. Pulled it back up in short order though it is probably well above what most would put a knife to for most applications.

Thanked: 169Under light. I can't get these videos to embed. If a mod knows what I did incorrectly feel free.

Thanked: 3215Jnat,
Is the bevel shinny or hazy, can you see stria with magnification. If hazy, it’s probably a Jnat, from where, who knows?
You will have to experiment with nagura to max it out, or just play with some diamond slurry, thinning with water to see if it is a finisher.
Nice looking stone, good size and thickness.
