Default Zulu Grey. When was the last time someone received one?

After reading the Zulu Grey vs. Greek Vermio on Identical Torreys thread. I ordered a stone, after going through the site.
It does say 3-4 months for delivery. I’m good with waiting, however in most situations the money doesn’t leave my account until the product has shipped.
Not with this transaction. The money was gone the day I ordered to a photography, and graphic design company in California called Silvergate IIRC.

As a business owner, and employer for nearly 40 years. I find by not collecting 100% of your payment up front, you are not only strongly motivated to get your product out sooner then later. It also shows financial stability in your company.

If the owner of the company is a upstanding member of this community, I mean no disrespect. I’m just stating the obvious as I have learned over the years.

I’m curious as to the last time anyone has received a stone from Zulu Grey.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Be interesting to hear where people are getting their ZG hones from these days. When they first came out I ordered mine direct from the person making them in South Africa.

Haven’t heard anyone getting ripped off. Going thru a US site is different from mine also. But lots of overseas companies doing that. Hell my Karnataka was from Hawaii. I was in some of the first ones but it has always taken many weeks and sometimes months. They get mined and processed on order and I’m sure he needs a minimum to start cutting. If your concerned , cancel But I know of no one who has been taken.

Waiting no big deal anyway give you a chance to learn more about honing

I hear you-I ordered mine on December 7th, and yeah, paid up front, got a confirmation e-mail from the owner Mike. Apparently a few months' wait is standard with the ZGs, especially after one of his 50% off sales. TC is right as far as I know-everyone gets their hone eventually (probably after you've forgotten you ordered it lol!). You can then legitimately say to your spouse, "Now where did that come from?" Hell, I'm currently playing with his until mine gets here lol!

As the OP on that thread who's done a good bit of experimenting on it since, I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed. The 8x3" I'm experimenting with has given up some truly sublime edges, and quite easily I might add. Hopefully you have some other hones to keep you occupied in the meantime. All of a sudden, Arkies are hot again, for example.

I also ordered around then and took advantage of the 50% off. As far as I'm aware, shipping from South Africa alone is gunna take some time. And that's even if customs doesn't gunk up the works, which in my experience they always do. Had a coticule sit in new york for 6 weeks a little while back.

As far as the ordering and payment issue, I've never not paid upfront for something purchased through a website. That's simply how it goes.

I ordered on December 11, 2019 and got confirmations but I do recall reading the it could be 2-3 months. So everything was clearly stated before my order - and I’ve also never heard of anyone getting screwed. Looking forward to receiving it. Mike is on the forum and does graphic design for work so I didn’t find the design firm as the payee unusual.

I just received my refund through PayPal for the Zulu Grey. I’m glad to have the money back, but I’m very disappointed to have been put in this position, and that someone with such a seemingly good product is tanking their business because of their own inaction. I definitely would have preferred to have received the stone! I just hope Michael gets his act together sooner than later.

I just got an email from PayPal saying they were unable to contact seller, refund issued.
It’s a shame, as I would rather of had the stone.

Check with Howard Schechter at the Perfect Edge in Massachusetts. He was selling them a couple years ago. It’s where I got mine. When I visited him then he had a significant supply of them. He was distributing for Michael then.
