    Default Hone ID?

    Gentlemen,

A friend of mine sent me a hone to try and identify, and I’m fairly sure that it is a Hindostan, but thought that I would ask the good people here for an opinion.

It appears to be a sandstone, hard and about 4-5k in grit, but it also leaves coarser striae that I estimate to be about 1k by the time it took a good suita to remove them. Scott also said that it would occasionally kick out a bit of grit making it unsuitable for razors but OK on knives and tools.

Here are the images, any thoughts?

With the banding, that color, and those rust spots I would second on a hindostan.

I have a botan that plays nice with the one I have that works good for knives.

The banding would suggest a Hindostan but most of those I have seen are a small bit darker in color. I agree that the Hindostan is a sandstone and best suited for knives, not razors.

    Just my 2 cents
