Carefully inspected it before starting. It's not really a frown yet as it was just flattened bit of the center of the slight smile. Current status gives me a dilemma that I have to remove about 0.5mm of the edge either to keep the smile or flatten the edge completely. Decided to use a bit of rolling stroke for now and see how it goes.

The spine is still in mint state but it's a little bit lower near the stabliser on the trade mark side. So I put a extra lay of tap just on that side and started the work. I did not not expect it chewing away my morning really. Noticed some micro burs near the tip before starting, it turned out the 4K stone could not remove them effectively, so fell back to 2K for a couple of strokes and back to 4k again, then 8K, 12K and finally 30K. Going to try shaving with it now.

BTW, Mick, could you please explain what you mean by "hook starting"? Thanks.

This is typical of a buffed blade. They go this way and that, giving the middle a double-dose..
As was mentioned, the heel must be corrected and the thing smiled until smooth. Some width will be lost. That stabilizer will need some work there.

The entire edge must be brought below the center to create a positive smile. Is what it is.

The shaving was okay, probably slightly smoother than my Boker but not as keen. I can see from the honing session that the steel seems to be harder than Dovo or Boker. I would assume it can hold a more laps on the 30K. But it's not much point to try that yet. Giving nature of the issues, I guess I'll put it up for a while and focus on honing up two NOS' arrived yesterday. Thanks for all the help.

Yeah, I can see it clearly now, there is a bit of a frown in the center. You need to rework that heel for sure. There are lots of threads about it. In short, take an appropriate sized small coin on top of the spine and trace around it with a marker. Then use a diamond plate to shape the heel to the new curve. After that you may need to butter knife it and reset the bevel. Even if you don't butter knife it the bevel likely needs to go all the way back to reset to get a completely clean apex the whole length

That 30k will fix ANYTHING.

I say u can achieve the same affect, maybe better results than a 30K, by just stropping.

No matter what finisher u use, the edge still stops at the strop, not the hone. It'll either improve an edge, or destroy it, depending on your abilities. IMHO

Not to go down another rabbit hole, but it the foundation is not perfect, the shave will never be perfect. The most important hone in your arsenal is your bevel setter. Raise the heel, repair the shape of the edge, ensure the bevel is perfect and the rest is just polishing that perfect bevel, but if you go too far on any of the hones above 8K or on pastes, the edge can deteriorate quite rapidly.

Agreed 100%. No matter what you do with the stones...any stones, that shave will not be a 30k shave until the bevel is set right and that will not happen until the heel is fixed and the edge is reshaped.

Thanks for the tips. I seemed to have seen quite a few similar threads, basicly to round up the stabliser a bit so that the stabliser not riding on the stone. I've checked mine, it looks a little bit tricky to do so without touching other parts. I guess it would make sense to pull out my electric tools, but I just have to be careful or I can screw up pretty easily.
