Diamond lapping film-new source
I order stuff for the laser lab from this place. The shipping is incredibly fast.
I just looked, and they now carry diamond lapping film, not just the aluminum oxide stuff. 6"x6" diamond film for $9 a sheet. You can cut each sheet in two 3x6 pieces. Pretty good price for this stuff.
Buy one sheet of each 6um (4000grit), 3um (8000grit), 1um (16000grit).
$27, for a complete range of grits that will have your highest carbon blades pleading for mercy?? $27???? PU-LEEASE!

"Oooh, but Seraphim, I have this new TI, and it's impossible to get sharp!" :(
Nope....that TI will sharpen up like a fine Wisconsin cheddar when it meets the diamond film...

"Waaaaah, stainless steel is so difficult to hone...."
Put a cork in it, Mister! There's nothing wrong with the steel, it's simply the limp-wristed hones you've been using up 'til now!

"But....but...but...I just spent $1,200 on a Sukahara natural stone that was quarried from the flanks of Mount Fuji itself by a 117 year old Japanese master!"
Wrong answer: what you now have is a $1,200 doorstop! You can perhaps makeuse of it as a backing plate for your new diamond lapping film, welcome to the 21st century!
If you have any "difficult to hone" razors, this stuff will dope slap that razor into line, pronto! Really fantastic stuff!!! You simply wet out a nice, clean, flat piece of glass (they also sell a nice looking one on their site, but any old piece will suffice...I use a precision granite plate from Woodcraft) and lay the sheet down, then press out the water and the sheet will stay in place via stiction. Then you can use it as you would a normal hone.
It also has a very nice "velvety" feel to it, nothing like the feel of a DMT plate, it leaves a much much smoother scratch pattern as well compared to a DMT. Even the 6um stuff will give you a more even, smoother, material removal than the 3um DMT8EE.
Did I mention it is fantastic stuff?!
Buy some. You, and your razors will thank me...:tu
