I just ordered some of the alum oxide sheets from here to see how they compare to the diamond. 5um, 3um, 1um, 0.3um

The aluminum oxide stuff works just as well, but definitely will not last as long.

    Here's the progression at 200x:

    5um
    3um
    1um
    0.3um
    0.3um "Seriphied" (tm) edge

How's the shave off the 16k diamond film equivalent? Do you do anything to the edge after coming off that 16K film?

I incorporate diamond pastes/sprays both in 1 mic and .5 mic during some honing sessions and don't like the shaves straight off those media. Too harsh.

Sometimes I get weepers if it's too sharp.

Some canvas stropping usually drops it into the comfort zone.

I always thought guys that said that were nuts. While I might still question your sanity, I do believe that statement now.

I got weepers like crazy from using a shavette with a brand new Derby shavette blade. Although using this same blade with a more lubricating soap (Tabac) dramatically reduced the number of weepers than what I got with Pen's Blen cream.

They also have a european warehouse - I visited the site and it detected my country and gave me the prices in GBP - very nice.

They also sell a glass plate, which has rubber feet and looks like substantially-thick safety glass. I might have to give some of this a go
