Lee, I don't think it's considered PC to rip on communist China. I say I don't think, because I'm ignorant to virtually all things "PC".

Well let's think of it from a newbie point of view.... if you were new to straight razors and you googled "Chinese 12k" vs. "guanxi" or similar..... which one is going to yield the best results?
I am completely a fan of disrupting our entire measurement system and converting everything over to SI units (base-10 just makes TOO much SENSE!!), but I think leaving the "chinese 12k" alone is a good idea.
I love my C12K.
I don't know if a G-stone would thrill me the same way
I think Utopian is right. When i first started looking at hones, i just assumed that the chinese 12K was man made, do to the grit destination. It wasnt until much later, that i read that it was a natural stone.
Just my 0.2 cents.

I don't honestly believe that I will succeed in altering the designation of what I have been calling the Chinese hone. I just wanted to point out the disparity and confusing aspect of calling it by a grit designation.
I'll go ahead and go back to playing with my 12k Escher, my 15k Escher, my 16k Escher, my 16.2k Escher, my 3k-14k coticules, my 27k Nakayama Namito, my 31k Nakayama Asagi, my 36k Nakayama Asagi, and my Chinese hone.
It just says Chinese polishing stone on the box.
I think "Chi-Po stone" sounds good or if you prefer "Cheapo stone":p :roflmao
now i have to try to spell all this crap lo is me
