cheeeep shapton glass stones and a NEW glass stone

The description and the photo is talking exclusively about the DRLP though. I'm at work now and can't call the place, otherwise I'd be on the horn confirming it as we speak. Can someone else call them today and confirm whether it's the DGLP or the DRLP?

I agree, if for some totally wacky reason it IS the DRLP, I would think someone could buy them and sell them on Ebay immediately for a profit. That's why there's got to be a mix up there.

600 grit diamond hone (reference plate side) which is flatter than flat AND a stone lapping plate in the save heavy bronze unit? Sign my up that that price!!

I couldn't resist, I had to call this company. They're having a product specialist confirm whether it's the DRLP or the DGLP. The item number is SHGL15. Shapton Glass 15? I agree even if it is the DGLP it's a great price. I've owned the DGLP though and personally am interested in the DRLP and not the DGLP. I do hone chisels from time to time as well, so to me the DRLP would be perfect.

I couldn't find a phone # so I emailed with the question. Thanks for being resourceful and calling them. If I get the info before you do I will post it.

I can't even see the website (the term Knife) in the name gets it blocked at work...glad "razor" doesn't!)
Anybody mind telling me what are they getting for the 4, 8 and 16 and the holder?
Do Shaptons generally nep a lapping BEFORE first use? If so, I'll need that DG(or R)LP as well, I guess.

Shaptons should be lapped before each and every time they are used. The nature of the polymer binder. A DMTC works fine if you don't want to go for the more expensive Shapton plate. Sandpaper will do it as well. They are selling the glass stones from 500 through 8k but not the 16.

Yes the do need lapping prior to first use and NO YOU DO NOT NEED THE GDLP. YOU CAN USE DMT or other diamond lapping plates.

I received a call back from the product manager at this company. He held one of the Shapton lapping plates in his hands and confirmed they're selling the GDLP and NOT the DRLP for the $209 (which is still a killer deal). He said he already changed the website to correct the error. BUMMER!!!! I knew it was too good to be true.

Incidentally, he said he's getting the Shapton 16k in a few weeks to sell and he's planning on having very low introductory prices on the 16k. 16k seekers.........watch this site and report to each other when that 16k is for sale. You should get a great deal here it seems.

The SHGL15 is listed as the GlassStone JP 8000/1.84 @ $88 on Shapton's site.

If I were in the market for shaptons now, I'd probably head to the Vendors corner and check out Tom Blodgett's (jendeindustries) post there.... he apparently has the 16k's and 30k's 25% off too, so that's where i'd go to get my bread buttered.... oh yeah,,, free shipping as well.
