Hone Storage?

I have nowhere near as many hones as most of you.

But i have enough now that i need someway to keep more organized and keep them off my desk.

Anyone have any good solutions? A good toolbox maybe? dunno.


Right now i have the following and growing...

6x2 stones:
DMT 600
DMT 1200
DMT 8k
BBW
Coticule

8x3 Stones:
Norton 4k/8k
Naniwa 12k

Misc:
Combo Slurry stone for coticule/BBW
Spray bottle for water
Electrical tape

I keep my hones in flat Rubbermaid tupper containers when not in use. They all live in one drawer in a cabinet I keep in my study/office/razor restoration room. If more than one hone is in the tupper, I separate them with layers of bubble wrap to prevent chipping. I always wash, brush, and dry them after use, before putting them away, due to a mold episode that happened to one of my Nortons.

I use the cabinet above the refrigerator, they dry quickly and the space is to far out of reach for the rest of the family I use that rubbery shelf liner to keep them off the painted shelf and store the hones on their sides. Works great so far.

I just keep mine in the cabinet under the sink on a shelf. I don't think you need anything ritzy for hone storage anything will do. You just have to make sure they are fully dry before putting them up. Not a big deal for natural stones but synthetics can take days to dry out.

Get a bigger desk!

If you store them in a sealed container for a long period of time, be sure that the moisture is not trapped inside. I had a couple of stones gets moldy that way.

One in my back pocket, 2 other small ones by the computer where I do much of my honing. The larger ones are usually in the gun safe, along with my favorite barber hones. The other barber hones are in a 1 cubic foot plastic milk carton in the closet.

I actually just keep them on my bookshelf in my room, all of them except for my norton which I keep under the bathroom sink. I put them on the bookshelf so you can see them all when you walk into my room. Makes me smile every time I walk in.

I bought one of those plastic stackable shelving things at target. It has 3 shelves which are just under 3 inches deep, and the whole unit is about 11" wide by 12.5" deep. Works great because it holds all my hones/tape/microscope/etc no problem and it's portable. Plus it was only like $7 or something.

It is ok, but i should make an individual box for each ... but i gotta lot of stuff to do so one big box better work

Mine are in a cavern with a fire breathing dragon guarding the gate. Actually they are all in the kitchen cabinets above the sink. One of the perks of being single.
